Problem with Google Apps - Play Store (won't install updates)

All the Google Apps such as YouTube, Google+, Google Maps etc will not update on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Tablet via the Google Play Store.

This is a brand new tablet which has only been out of the box about 6 hours. I have NOT rooted it or messed about with it in any way, nor do I want to! When I first took it out of the box, inserted my SIM and turned it on, it did a few updates and updated the firmware to Android 4.2.2. I went onto the Play Store after everything was all set up and it came up with a list of Google preinstalled apps that needed updating, it started updating them. The first one to update was the Hangouts app which replaced Talk. It told me that Google Play Services needed updating once it downloaded so it tried downloading it and now all I'm getting is the loading bar in my notification panel for all the Google apps. Nothing is downloading. I've turned the tablet off and on again, unmounted the SD card, NOTHING IS WORKING. I can't update any of the apps. Can someone help me? I can download other apps, I just can't update any of these Google ones and I don't understand why. I've never encountered this problem before and I'm baffled.

Update - for some reason when I've turned WiFi off these Google Apps have updated over 3G. Does anyone know why they won't update over WiFi when other apps do?

You can set all updates to update over wifi only in the settings

It's already set to that. I'm having the issue again, Facebook Messenger would only download over 3G. I'm not quite sure why this is.

It doesn't seem to want to download hardly any apps over WiFi in which case this tablet is going to be rather expensive as I'll end up exceeding my data allowance on my SIM. Before anyone asks, my WiFi is working perfectly, I'm with BT and I get totally unlimited downloads as part of my plan. Everything works fine on my laptop and Android phone.

Im racking my brain here tryin to think whats happening mate.......

It's confusing me too. I think I'm going to have to give Samsung customer services a call to find out what the problem is. It's probably something simple and I've not noticed but I've never had this issue before.
