Hi there

There's a facility to download and save portions of maps that you can use offline, but my tablet doesn't seem to be able to do do that; or rather, it does, but when I turn my tablet off, they don't seem to be there (My Places) when I turn it on again.

Hi there

There's a facility to download and save portions of maps that you can use offline, but my tablet doesn't seem to be able to do do that; or rather, it does, but when I turn my tablet off, they don't seem to be there (My Places) when I turn it on again.

I hope I'm understanding what you are saying. My Places are POIs that you have identified on Google maps to be saved as spots of interest for you. An internet connection is required to access those. My Maps on Google are routes that you have planned out online and saved. These are also available on your phone (or tablet) if you have an internet connection. As far as I know, neither of the above can be made available offline. As for downloading map tiles, which is the way you save maps to your device, in Maps, touch Menu>Make Available Offline and choose your map area. Although the map is saved on the device and the device can display your location on the map, without an active internet connection you cannot create a route on that map. In order to use the offline map feature, you have to establish your route with an active data connection and then you can turn off the data and it will route you to your destination. Be aware that it will not reroute you should you stray from your course. If you get back on the established course, it will continue to work properly. It does work perfectly as long as you stay on your route.
