Help Problem with my Mac recognising Galaxy S

Hey,

I stumbled across this thread in search of a way to get my Samsung Galaxy S to connect to my damn Mac.
I've tried debugging and mounting, however it does not seem to work. The phone seems to register that it is connected as the notification tray displays both the 'USB debugging connected' icon and the 'USB connected' icon (it even vibrates!).
Yet my mac does nothing except freeze up for a few seconds, and even then only sometimes. No notification, nothing. Oh except occasionally it shuts down the USB port for 'drawing too much power'...

Still that's better than my MESH PC which straight up shuts down and refuses to turn back on again for some hours.

Any idea what's going on and how I can fix it?

When I was having trouble seeing my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, I found this solution that is working for me. After connecting the USB cable:

Go to Settings > SD card and phone storage > Internal SD card > Mount SD card.

Enjoy your Android.

I can access the SD card on my Mac by following the instructions in this post but I can't figure out how to access these files and folders from the phone.

I have not added an external SD card to my phone (I am using the built-in 16GB SD memory).

Are there any suggestions for how to open the movies or music once copied to the internal memory?
 
i just need some help, ive connected my debugging and also mounted my SGS to my mac, but yet its not syncing to my computer! ive tried everything but yet its not working! can i please have some help?
 
Hey Marsarya, what exactly are you trying to sync? contacts? music?... etc? I just need start by saying that the iPhone is definitely better for use with Mac OSX, because the sync features are all native and built-in. I sync my Samsung Galaxy with a Mac under the Windows 7 operating system (it works much better).

Samsung have not released any software for the Mac yet, and as far as I am aware the built-in Apple iSync feature does not support the handset.

There are a few different ways to sync media. I found that the best method was to mount the phone, create folders for 'Music', 'Movies', 'TV_Shows', then drag-and-drop the media files into the relevant folders (this is a benefit of the Samsung Galaxy over the iPhone because it can be used this way with multiple computers).

You can access all the media from the phone using the 'music player' and 'video player'.

There is another option for the music (if you want to integrate the phone with an iTunes library).

There is a third-party application that you can install called 'SongBird'. It should recognise your handset and sync the iTunes music.

Your contacts can be associated with a gmail/GOOGLE account (a 'free' option).

The first step is to export your contacts as a vCard, and import this file to your gmail/GOOGLE account.

Then from the handset you can enter the gmail account, and your sync will be active. I have not looked into automating the sync between the Apple address book and GOOGLE but I am sure there are other third-party applications that will do this, or try searching for 'GOOGLE contact management Mac OSX'.

There is another option that I found for syncing contacts, calendars, tasks, and emails but it is not free. The software is about $40 US and connects to Address Book, iCal, and Microsoft Outlook/Entourage. There might be cheaper packages available, but you may not find any 'freeware' solutions that suit your needs.

I got my Galaxy S a while ago and I eventually figured out how to turn USB debugging mode on and mount the SD card and use iSyncr for Mac to get playlists from my iTunes into my Music app on my phone. Unfortunately I broke my phone, and I'm trying to set up my replacement Galaxy S the same way but when I mount my SD card I get an error message on my MBP saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" and gives me options to initialize, ignore, or eject. Any suggestions as to what to do at this point? Thanks ahead of time.I never ran into this problem with my first Galaxy S.
 
You can also take a look at SyncMate - it allows syncing Mac and Android devices directly (contacts, calendars, music, images, videos, folders, bookmarks; autosync option is available; allows mounting Android device as additional Mac volume; allows sending SMS from Mac, etc).
 
hi, i bought my SGS today, after the store said 'yeah no problems with macs' (i suffered with an LG for two years so i def wanted it to work with my mac!)

bit miffed when i got it home, but i've now downloaded the syncmate program and it looks to be working a treat - you do have to have the 'expert edition' which costs about
 
ok I did the setting - applications - & debugging, but to connect it is asking me to do phone number account name and password.

What account name and password is it asking me?

Thank you so much! I had this working when i first used my SGS2 but then after upgrading with kies to latest version, it stopped working.

I have got the run around from all the vendors.. can SOMEONE at apple or samsung please see this problem, and fix it?

the sales guy at the Mobile store had told me that the galaxy works fine with Mac OS. Maybe there are ways around these problems but the Samsung Galaxy S is definitely not a plug and play, phone.

I'd still say its a damn good phone. For PC users.

I always use USB connection on my Mac - but it might be worth trying Kies Air from the Samsung store. I had a short play with it - it does not allow software updates by the way!
The only way to do a software update is to use a PC (or perhaps run Windows via Boot Camp)as far as I know. Virtual PC programs do not seem to work.

That did not work for me either. try this: settings > wireless and network > USB utilities > connect storage to PC.

That worked for me. it showed up in Devices in Finder and also on the desktop.

Ive now tried all of the above, and still nothing. It used to work with my older mac, but my new one won't mount the drive. Seems like I have different menu options than many above, even though I have a Galaxy S. Syncmate says my droid is off line, even though it says connected via usb on my phone. Songbird doesn't know theres a droid even connected, nor does my mac. If anyone can help me find the magic decoder ring to make this crap work, I'd be grateful. I heard Google was making a smartphone platform. Can't wait till they do!

I've tried everything,,thank you all..and have got as for as having
the green android figure showing on my phone.. i says "you have connected your phone you your computer via usb,select button below if you want to cop files between your computer and your android,s usb storage",,still i can't get my phones photos on
to my mac....what am i not doing??

I did this--and a variation of it has always worked with my Droid. But with my wife's Galaxy S, no go. when I do above steps, I get an error message that says the drive can't be recognized by the computer and it launches Disk Utility, which among other things asks whether I want to initialize the disk! WF????????

Since i undated the galaxy S2 to 2.3.5 it does not shoe the device when I connected to my mac. It is showing on disk utility but greyed out and taking a long time to repair the disk, debugging is on and usb storage is on but still no access to my file from my I mac, any help to resolve this annoying issue will be appreciated, have called both apple and Samsung and they can't really assist, they're useless. and blaming each other.
 
This is what I did and it worked just fine.

Go to Settings from your Homescreen
Go to Wireless and Network
Go to Bluetooth Settings
Check the "Visible" box

You're good to go! :)

Also, make sure you also read your "Device Name" on the last screen. That's what will show up on your computer.
 
I agree with an earlier poster, since 2.3.5, I haven't been able to properly connect to Kies on my Mac via USB...No recognition
 
Hi all! I tried the USB debugging thing but Android File Transfer still couldn't recognize my device. BUT...

I managed to connect my Galaxy S2 to my iMac by going to Settings>Wireless and network>USB utilities. Tap on 'Connect storage to PC' first before plugging the USB in. Then just follow the instructions. Your device would appear on your desktop as a common flash drive would.

There you go. However, I'm not sure of those invisible " ._ " files getting in your android as well...
