what do you mean does not fill automatically?

What doesn't fill automatically? What app are you talking about using it in, and what do you mean by "message"? Also when did it stop and what else happened inbetween (updates to app or operating system, for example)?

Once upon a time any app that had the permission could read your SMS. As Android is tightening up the security that is becoming increasinly less possible. So I can imagine an app which used to work this way no longer doing so, but without more information this is pure speculation.

I understand what the OP is talking about, but I don't have a solution.

@alohasabalah87 means when they're using or installing an app, and for security the app needs a one-time code, the code gets sent to the phone as a text message and SHOULD automatically fill in the field that's waiting for it. But, instead, it's just sitting there, and aloha has to read, memorize, and manually enter the code.

Does your whatever it is app actually have SMS permissions, to send and receive them? As I don't know what app and device you're using, I don't have any solution.

I can log into my banking app via an SMS, I enter the password, then the banking sends an SMS, and then receives another SMS with the two factor authentication code automatically. And that's only sent to one phone number I've already registered with my bank account.

But another apps, I copy and paste the SMS or email code, like logging into AF with a two factor code received by email, that I copy and paste into the browser. I don't have to memorise and manually type anything, it's just a simple copy and paste action.

Not offhand. But a little more info might help.

Is this happening with several apps, or only one? If you don't mind telling us, which apps are involved?

You said it used to work. Do you recall if anything unusual happened around the time it stopped?

What device is it, and what's its Android version?

I know that's been mentioned, but I've never done anything with that to make this work. For example, when setting up a brand-new phone, as I'm installing and opening each of my apps, some do this verification thing, and their texts come right through without my ever touching anything related to SMS settings. FWIW, I don't even text! (I use WhatsApp.) I've NEVER, on any phone, had to do anything to let those codes come through.

Have you tried powering down the phone? Maybe shake loose the gremlins. :)

Now that it's happening with all apps, I'm leaning toward a factory reset. But first let's see what others might suggest.

If it comes down to a reset, we'll help you make sure you're good as far as backups go.
