Problems after 4.0.4 update

IngvildH

Lurker
I installed the 4.0.4 update on my Samsung Galaxy R (GT-I9103) a couple of days ago, and have been having a lot of problems since then.

I can't get in to the pre-installed messaging app - the phone tells me "Unfortunately, messaging has stopped".
For one day I didn't receive any messages, but after installing Handcent SMS I can send and receive messages normally (only with that app, though).

I can receive phone calls, but not enter the call log or get into where I dial numbers - it tells me "Unfortunately, contacts has stopped".

I also get the same message about SocialHub, but I've never used that before so I really don't care. I haven't tried opening all of the pre-installed apps, but at least these three don't work as well as the radio and the clock (the time is right on the clock widget, but I can't get into the clock to set alarms or use the timer etc.).

I have tried clearing all cache and factory resetting several times without any help. Is there any way I can re-install the update or something? Or anything else I can try?
(I tried chatting with the lovely Samsung people, but the of course only told me to try factory reset, and send it in if that didn't help.)

Welcome to the forums IngvildH!

Unfortunately, it might just require a root and flash of a different rom.

You might want to try this if you are fed up with stuff like that not working.

Lastly, if you don't want to i would suggest just returning the device and getting a new one, sorry :(

Unfortunately, this seems like the best thing to do. Many users have had better performance after performing a reset right after updating their device.

Btw, welcome aboard. :)
Good luck.

I already tried the factory reset (quite a few times, just to be sure) without any help :/

I was afraid a root was the only way out of this - thanks anyways!
