Help Problems after HTC Desire crashed

colc

Newbie
My HTC Desire crashed recently, since then I have been suffering ongoiung problems.
I keep receiving the Google Talk Authentication failed messsage; tried all the suggested solutions I was able to find without success, If I try to download an App I get this message," No carrier HTC HTC Desire" despite WIFI and Mobile Network functioning.
Google Play Store has disappeared, Market has reappeared, cannot reinstall as I receive a message that my software is not supported now; V2.2.
I am considering a factory reset but that will not rectify the play store problem.
Any suggestions would be welcome, including advice as to the best way of backing up both phone and SD card.
This is my first post; I hope it is the right place.

Best way (not free) to back up apps and their data is the app and pc client Helium by a respected dev https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
For contacts, sync them with Google (if they aren't already)
For sms I'm pretty sure there are apps on Play (just search "sms backup")
I say give a factory reset a chance.
Or first, boot into recovery and clear the cache partition (Google it, I don't know your phone).
If that doesn't work, try the factory reset.
If that doesn't work the phone may need reflashed and one of our HTC experts (looking at you @EarlyMon ) will have to help.
Good luck mate

PS no need to back up the sd card for a reset. If you're nearvous, take it out first.
To back one up the best way is a card reader and a pc

Thanks for prompt reply; I have been thinking about backing up and dont know that it is necessary in my case, I do not have a lot of Apps (not a lot of space any way on this model) which only leaves Photos and Music, which I can easily copy and paste and my contacts are on the Sim card.
Have cleared the cache partition, seems more responsive, about to do a reset, what does puzzle me i show am I going to overcome the problem of not having access to Google play to reinstall what few apps I have. that and the Gogle Talk Authentication failue are the the main problems I have now.

I'll try n find a copy of play for you but I need someone to tell me if it will work as a user app, update the market or what?

"(you know how to install apps from outside Play Store don't you?)[/QUOTE]"
Not sure, I think I tried a long time ago, and seem to recall getting tangled up associating an apk file and gave up

Go to Settings, security and enable Unknown Sources.
Download the app. Once it's downloaded it should be in your notification drawer. Pull it down and tap on the download and it should guide you through the rest (i have no idea if this will work.
Are you rooted?)

Tried that, tapped on the download and received a parse error; not rooted, have thought about it but not confident enough.
Do you ever go to bed? at least it is nearly lunchtime here in Aus.

3:50am here in Scotland and I'm just making dinner lol I have weird sleep patterns mate :)

Hmm have you tried a few different browsers?

I down loaded to PC and sent to phone with Bluetooth, that worked, I have now narrowed my problems down to two; I still receive the HTC Desire no carrier message and the Google Talk Authentication message.

So Play is working? Did you try the reset?
I'm just having a munchy then going to bed so hopefully someone else will join in through the "night"
Good luck mate

Update; Well I finally bit the bullet and did a reset; so far all is well, I had to download an older version of Google Play as I kept getting the message" software version no longer supported" I had to install it via Bluetooth from PC.
It took a while but eventually GP recognised my phone, as yet the "authentic message" has not yet returned.
I did encounter another problem due to the reset, most of my Apps were installed a couple of years ago, and no longer supported, a lot of the alternatives do not support v2.2, just have to live with that.
This is not the correct forum for this observation but will share it; the last twelve months or so I rarely use Google Earth due to it's unreliability, in particular, when I click on a site the screen whites out repeatedly; It is also a long time since I have shopped for Apps on Play until today, the same thing happens; screen whites out and takes up to a minute to get back to normal, until I click on another App, then whites out. Strange that it only happens on these two Google sites.
Many thanks for replies.

How much ram does your phone have? I know Earth is pretty intensive but I don't know about play..
Glad you got most shit working though mate :thumbsupdroid:

Thee HTC Desire has only 150m available that is why I have to limit my Apps; my apologies I neglected to point out that my reference to Earth concerns only logging on with my PC, that is why I think it is strange to have that problem on two different platforms.
