Help Problems Already

After leaving the nightmare that was the Triumph, I jumped on this phone. I have a few problems and was wondering if any of you were experiencing these:


  • My battery will only charge to 87%. It doesn't report as full (light or bar). It just stops charging.
  • When I go to camera, the brightness of the phone blows up. I have to use an extended control I have to cycle back to the 34% I usually keep it at.
Anyone having these issues. Defective battery?
 
are you charging the OEM battery? if so, that is unusual. i have only experienced major charging issues with extended (third party) batteries.

the screen going to max brightness in camera mode is by design. its the same with my htc evo v. otherwise you will have a hard time using it as a viewfinder in bright sunlight
 
I went ahead and let the battery run all the way down and then let it charge all the way up. It now goes to 99% (maybe 100% if I gave it another hour), so I guess I'm good for now. Thanks all.
 
Two more things.

1. Run the battery down until the phone shuts itself down once and recharge it. Don't do this a lot as it's hard on the battery. This allows android to calibrate the bottom end of the battery's capacity.

2. Charge the battery until the light turns green. Then unplug it and shut it down. While off, plug it back in and let it charge until the light is green again. It should take 1-5 minutes. Restart the phone plugged in and once it's running, unplug it.

Also, the battery should get better after the first couple weeks of use as android learns the battery (ie, calibrates it).

Same problem -- charge to 80%. Ran it to shutdown and got a 100% charge. Next cycle was normal use (down to 30-40%) and back to an 80% charge. Few more cycles, then ran it down again, charged to 99 or 100%. Next cycle, 84%. Some advice is to wipe battery stats, but requires root which I am reluctant to do for now. The green light is a stranger. The increase to 84% suggests some calibration is going on, so will give it more time.

Update 8/2/12
Still sometimes will not show more than 80% or so on overnight charging. However, using Battery Monitor Widget Pro, it is clear the phone is fully charging to max voltage etc. within an hour or two, and then stays constant the rest of the night, but the system's calculating the percentage incorrectly. I used a utility that displayed a percentage based on voltage, but it's less resource intensive just to account for the built in error.

Update 9/7/12
Finally gave up and got a replacement from VM. Second unit had same problem, maybe worse. Tech support said I was sent a "B" unit, i.e. refurb. Another unit was sent (promised to be "A", new) and it is problem free. Very happy with the phone.
 
I have this same issue, but my battery only charges to 78%. I have called Virgin Mobile and they are sending a replacement. I have also tried doing a complete factory reset and it didn't solve the issue. It sounds like this could be a widespread issue...
 
I'm not doing this. I did this replace/replace/replace crap with the Triumph line four times. I'm done with Virgin Mobile. I'm in the 30-day window. I want my money back. Done.

I did something similar recently; I bought the unlocked Samsung Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store and signed up for the T-Mobile $30 plan. I'm extremely happy with the phone and have data speeds typically better than 5mpbs (just did a test, got 6905kbps in my house). Others have also taken the phone and are using Straight Talk, $45, which is using AT&T's cell service.

The big advantage to the Nexus is Jellybean. I believe most phones are still shipping with ICS (though that is supposed to be changing) but their is an OTA update for them to Jellybean. Also as an unlocked phone it is stock Android with no bloatware.
 
Mine sometimes doesn't want to charge above 98% or so, other times it gets to 100% fine. I'm not worried about it.

It's a new Android, they come with a learning curve. My last one dropped dead on me battery wise for the first week or so, and a month later I had it sipping juice cruising steady. The OS learns its limits and your usage.

Though if you are not getting above a 90% charge I would definitely replace, something's off there.
 
Let the battery die.. Then charge it all the way. It's only a glitch for the first day you get the phone. OR you could turn the phone off after it charged only to 87% and sometimes when you turn it back on it's 100%
 
You have to restart the phone to get it back to 100% Sometimes if it doesn't just die.. It won't charge right.. I don't know why.. But.. That's what HTC told me.. Same thing happened to mine.. And A LOT of other people.. But it would only charge to 65%...
