Root Problems connecting to Wifi Tether from some laptops

Hi

I have a Samsung rooted phone running the latest version of Wifi Tether. Some of my laptops connect fine, an older Lenovo running Vista, or a Sony running windows 7. But a toshiba laptop running windows 7 cannot connect. It sees the network, as ad hoc, but cannot connect. A couple other friends' laptops have the same issue, and it seems to be the fact that it is an ad hoc network.

I tried looking for ways to enable or configure the computer to connect to ad hoc networks, but have not found any settings for this.

Reading around the internet, it seems the issue is on the computer trying to connect, not with my phone broadcasting. But maybe I'm wrong. Would like some help configuring in Windows 7, how to tell it to allow connections to ad hoc networks.

Thanks

You're making this more difficult than it needs to be. The Infuse has built-in wifi hotspot capability.
Just go to: Settings> Wireless and network > Mobile AP
Since you are rooted, disable (freeze) the TetheringManager app and you can ignore the Mobile AP warning.

I have never had a device fail to connect first time, every time using this method.

Thanks for responding. "Mobile AP" was already unchecked when I went to it. I'm not sure if that is the problem or even how to "freeze" it besides unchecking that box. I have been using the App "Wifi Tether" which requires a rooted phone to operate.

I have been reading some posts about people having problems with tablets being able to connect to an ad hoc network so thought perhaps the problem is related to that. I also had a friend's work laptop specifically give a message that said something to the effect of cannot connect to internet through another computer, due to security.

But I could be totally off. I'm willing to try pretty much anything. Is there a way to get the phone to broadcast as a regular hot spot instead of an ad hoc network?
