Root Problems Rooting Vibrant

armanl

Lurker
model sgh-t959 firmware 2.2 kernel 2.6.32.9 build froyo

Okay I've tried 3 methods to root my vibrant. I've used it for about a year so I'm not sure if that might have something to do with these methods not working.

First I tried to use superoneclick. It finally worked after I kept getting stuck at step #7. When I try to run titanium backup, it says not rooted. When I open z4root, it says it's rooted and comes with unroot option.

When I tried z4root method, after 100 tries, it finally completed and same unroot option came up. Titanium backup doesn't show it is rooted.

Last I tried the manual method. I downloaded update.rar and put it in my phone's internal sd. I did the recovery reboot and updated packages. Titanium still doesnt work.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded busybox app to update it but it requires root :(. Vicious cycle

any clue what I'm doing wrong? Should I just reset my phone back to normal and start from there?

You need to downgrade, the official froyo 2.2 if that is what you have I remember hearing was a bit harder to root with those methods. The below video tutorial I made a while back will tell you how to downgrade and how to flash a rom. All you need to do is follow this tutorial then pick a rom you want and flash it. It's pretty easy to do once you figure it all out. I have recommend Project V to a number of people (froyo 2.2 based) since its fast and everything works and has great battery life.

thanks for the response. So does anyone know why the 2.2 fails to root with so many methods? Do you think if I go back to a clean 2.2 boot, it would work?

I guess it's not a big deal to go back to 2.1. Besides project V, what do you think of cyanogen or axura? I'm just looking to make my phone faster and the battery life to last as long as possible. I know there are benchmarks available, but there doesn't seem to be a site where all the roms are compared together.

thanks

I don't really have a clue as to why it fails but I have always learned from others that its always best to downgrade in most cases before flashing a custom rom. As far as cyanogen mod goes its fast and performance is great but battery life isn't that great. And axura, I used to use it in the begining of the year but as I learned more and tried more roms I have found plenty of others to be better, faster and have more battery life (IE Project V). But like I said if you want to really move forward you will need to downgrade then find the rom of your choice and flash it, the tutorial I posted will tell you how to do it all.
