Root Problems using Clockworkmod

I accidentally started this thread in the "EVO 4G" section so I'll just cut and paste most of it here.

I Asked,

"My phone is rooted using stock ROM, AFAIK anyway. Really green at this stuff and I rooted using some guide I can't remember a couple months ago. I'm trying to get my head back in this and want to try some new ROM's. I installed Clockworkmod ROM manager. At this point I'm just trying to get comfortable making/managing back-ups. When I try to make a back up it just reboots the phone and doesn't seem to do anything else. When I go into clockworkmod and select mange and restore, there are no backups listed so I guess that's evidence that it indeed didn't do anything. Also when I tell it to boot into recovery it just reboots the phone. Any idea what am I doing wrong?"

Someone suggested that I get rid of CWM ROM manager and asked what my bootloader screen said. Here is that info:

flash TWRP or EXT4. if u really wanna use CWR , try this http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/656317-recovery-clockwork-mod-v6-0-1-9-a.html G60 has tested this version of CWR on his phone. If u dont know how to flash recovery through fastboot, read this http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ing-evo-v-4g-roms-kernels-using-fastboot.html step 5 in the guide shows u the codes u will need.

Thanks, That was the guide I used to root initially!

On the TeamWin website they say installing goomanager is the prefered method instead of using the command prompt like you suggest. I tried following their instructions and it said it's supposed to ask for my devices code name (not sure what that is yet, model# maybe?) but it didn't, It just downloaded an img file. I'm assuming this file is the boot loader I'm supposed to flash? I'll futz with it a bit more and if it can't install itself that way I'll go use SDK tools in the dos prompt.

Command prompt and flash through fastboot is very easy. It takes about 1 min to do this ... here is also the video to show every step how to root htc evo v - YouTube

Thanks I did end up getting it. Just took studying the guide a bit to refresh myself.
