Help Problems w/Epic

Ferret

Newbie
Hey guys (and gals)...thought I'd see if I can get some help with some long-standing issues.

First: Epic - EC05(factory) - Rooted - Bloatware removed (and several other items...that may be part of my issue )

Got three major problems (one that I *know* I caused myself.)
First: Music Player freezes up at the end of the first song I play. I did some research, and somone said re-install the two DRM apks....I have them (and their odex's)...but they *won't* Install (either from RootExplorer, *or* from the Applications Manager.)
Second: I have a 32 gig SD card...and it constantly scans to 100% and stays open (the scanner, that is). I DL'ed ReScanMediaRoot, and enabled DeBugging...but that seems an awfully clumsy way to work around this issue....is there a cleaner solution?
Third: While I was monkeying around with the DRM apks, I accidentally deleted the Market DL manager...and I can't get *it* to re-install either... so now I can't see my installed programs on the Market.

Also, my addition to the "whining" about EC05:
I *HATE* the combining of the Phone and Messaging contacts...when I punch a name in my Phonebook, I want to *call* the person...not be asked *again* if I want to call.

SO...my question is either: Should I fix what I have (and if so...*HOW?)...or just flash to the new 2.3, and be done with it?

And Lastly...If I install 2.3; I assume it's a Sprint version, and full of "poopy"....anyone have a list of what is safe to yank out of this version?

Thanks in advance!

For playing music, I use Winamp. Seems to work without any issues.

For the DL Manager, you should have backed up with Titanium or other 1st. Did you do a nandroid backup when you rooted? If you did, you may have to restore and start from scratch.

For messaging and phone contacts, get Go Contacts from the Market. That will only show calls sent/missed/received and not texts. Also, it will give you the option in the settings to turn outgoing calls confirmation on or off.

I guess I should have mentioned that I tried the music with the native player, with WinAmp, and with Player Pro. All exhibit the same problems with locking up after the first song.
as for the APK issue.... I *have* the files, they just won't install for some reason.

First off, its a leak, the 2.3 version. And it will have been stripped of bloat. Both of your issues can be solved by simply dropping the apk into the /system/app file and rebooting.
