Android Question

O.K. know this is going to sound weird, but swear it's the truth. I need the best answers I can find.
My wife thinks her phone is being spied on and given the day of the week it depends on whether I am to blame or someone else is.
My wife has had 3 Android phones in the last year. A Kyocera Hydro, a Samsung S2 (both with Boost) and 1, another Kyocera (model unkwown) with Cricket.
It started with the Hydro. I purchased the phone from a Radio Shack in a sealed box. Using my cell phone I called the number included and activated the phone. I used the family Amazon accout to down load Anti -Virus. Besides that the only thing I have downloaded for it, with her permission was a Task Manager and Chrome.
She later deleted Chrome as she did not like it.
The phone was prone to over heating and battery life at times was extraordinarly short. After we moved, she move up the Galaxy S2. After a time she began to have issues. I have only physically touched the phone one time, long after the problems began. She cannot access her SD Card, USB Storage seems to be turned on. Down loads do not appear. She also claims that at times apps become inaccessible and that contact lists and such get wiped out.
So she got a cricket phone. She believes that the problems began again once she connected to the home Network. Vizio Router / TWC provider. She claims her IP and sub nets and masks change all the time and that she is not in control. The screen then went completely white, despite me show her web pages where that is common amoungst her type of phone after being dropped she refuses to believe it.
Is any of this even romotely possible. She has talked about the Android Project like they are some nefarious org and they possible had something to do with it. She says her original phone was loaded with some software not loaded on everyphone, but are supposed to be clearly Identified on the box. There was no markings on the box of any kind other than what was supposed to be there.
When on Boost Network, how does the phone connect to internet? Is there an IP? who is it assigned by.
Would the IP then change if she hooked into the home network using the WIFI capability?
Can someone hack into and take over a cell phone? Why would they want too?
Can someone ease drop (not NSA) on phone calls, whether over the air, or somehow retrieving it off a tower?
These are just some of her claims.
I know very basic computer stuff, so oustide of setting up the home net work using the instrustions from the router and using google to diagnois issues. I am at a loss.
Help please for my peace of mind. My worriy is intrustion into homenet work (ID theft and all).
Thanks in advance.
