Help Problems with charging...

Hi,

My DHD has issues - It might just be that it is getting on in life.

Sometimes when I plug it in I get the message that is using more power than can be put back into it I am am finding that I is taking 12+ hours to charge. I have the Advanced Task killer which kills apps but they always seem to reappear? Surely If I turn them off they should stay off? The screen cannot be consuming power, its only on when I am using the phone, its off all night. I cannot shut the phone down over night as I need the alarm.

Also, I am having trouble with it turning itself off and on whenever I plug it in to charge at night. It restarts (takes aaaaaages!, hangs on the HTC screen for 3+ minutes). I have since come to the conclusion that the only way to fix that is to remove the batter and charge the phone whilst its off, but that doesnt help me 'cause I need the alarm!

Anyone got any input?

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums - thanks for joining! :)

It does sound a little strange that you are getting a message that it is using more power than can be put back in to it and I'm not sure what to advise you on that.

Once piece of advise though, remove the task killer. The actually do more harm than good...

Seriously, to a certain extent, they weren't needed on Eclair (2.1) and they were definitely not needed in Froyo (2.2). Given the Desire HD ships with Froyo, I'll let you do the math. Android is designed to be its own task killer, just let it do its job, it is pretty good at it. Just because you see an app held in RAM, that doesn't mean it's taking up battery. I hear things like "I use it to free RAM to make my phone faster/make XXX run better". If Android needs more RAM, it'll free it of its own accord as and when required. If you notice your phone acting sluggish, reboot. If it's consistent, check what's taking up CPU usage and if it's an app you've installed, uninstall. If it's one of the stock apps, post here, I'm sure someone will be able to help.

If you want more info on why Task killers are not required, you can look here. If you want a more technical overview of how Android manages tasks, take a look at what google have to say about the matter, here.

This could be part of the reason you are having issues... once you have gotten rid of the task killer, check to see if you get the same message on charging. If so, it could be a faulty battery... if you have a friend who has the same phone, you could try using their battery and seeing if you still get the message when you plug in to the computer.

Let us know how you get on :)
