Help Problems with Package installer

As I far as I can remember, I've had this problem on both my DHD 's. Basically, quite often the phone won't let me install non market apps. It gets to the package installer, and will only accept the cancel. This won't be a problem if I manage to upgrade, but I probably won't and it's very annoying not being to download some apps. Any ideas if the problem or how to fix it?
 
Presumably you've remembered to tick Settings -> Applications -> Unknown sources to allow the phone to accept non-market apps?
