Mods Problems with public key using dropbear

Not sure if this is the best forum to put this thread, so it can be moved if necessary.

I am trying to set up dropbear on my phone. I got opkg installed and got dropbear from there, generated a public key using puttygen (copying and pasting the key into a file, only saving the private key as a file), put the public key (authorized_keys) into /data/local/etc/dropbear/.ssh, chown'ed and chmod'ed everything needed, generated RSA and DSS keys, and ran the server. I can connect using putty with the corresponding private key, but when I try to login as root it says "Disconnected: No supported server authentication methods available (ser sent: public key)".

Obviously something is wrong, but I'm not sure what. I am trying to use dropbear so I can use it as an ssh daemon. I'd really prefer not to use an ssh server app, so if the solution is easy I'd very much appreciate an answer. Thanks!
