After rooting my phone, I cannot send sms messages except to myself without my phone repeatedly notifying me that the message was not sent (using Handcent or stock)

I had the same problem. I reflashed and did *228, that didnt work.
So i tried the 0.3 google voice from the market and i could send sms but not make calls through google voice. so i uninstalled that and put the 0.2 back on. I sent a test message without making it default and it went through, then sent another and made google voice the default sms sender and now it works.. I dont know why. but it does for now..

Just went ahead and dialed it after I re-flashed (figuring thats what it was), didn't work.
Tried it again, and it worked.
so far, no problems. Thank you!

It started again. Only with one contact so far. Uninstalled Handcent tried with stock, got "SMS Error, Cause Code: 255, Error Class: 3"

spud you used *228 option 2?
I know handcent had a bug on earlier build with this it kept telling you it wasn't delivered when it reallywas.
That should be fixed on the newest on the market, but since you said you tried with stock I would say try *228 option 2 if you haven't yet.
If that doesn't do it, flash another rom, try your luck with the same rom but different link?

Flashed the newest rom, and so far I'm good.
This happened right after I deleted the teeter app (or whatever it was, its gone still) which was posted as safe to remove. I deleted the apk and the obex and the issue resurfaced. I don't really think it has anything to do with that, but you know what "they" say: what was the last thing you did before all hell broke loose?
I don't think it was Handcent, though I wish it was for simplicity.
