Problems with SMSBackup and restore

Hi, just upgraded my EVO to an E4GT and tried to copy my text messages over to my new phone using SMSBackup. I copied the XML file to my new phone and told it to restore. At first it looked like it worked, but within a few mins my messaging app started crashing. Tried using handcent and same thing. Now I can't do any messaging since both open, hang and crash. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I think 9000 or so messages, is there a limit? I know the FAQs said it could take a while to index if restoring several thousand messages, but could I be going over the limit?

Yeah that is probably too many, and causing the messaging app to crash repeatedly. When I got my phone I was having trouble restoring 3k. I would try another SMS restoring app in the market, and then download the SMS Backup that allows you to sync all your messages to your gmail account. That way you will always have them and it should allow you to delete some of them from your phone.

Took another look at the FAQs for any mention of a limit and found nothing. But I did find a mention of indexing taking a while when restoring a large number of messages. It states that if the app locks up and the message "force close or wait" comes up, you should hit wait and give it more time to complete the action. It took close to 30 mins to finally get the app to stabilize and then I had to repeat the process with each thread but eventually everything worked.
