Problems with Tablet running Android 4.1.2

Newbie
I recently invested in a Tablet (my 1st android device) and have a couple issues which I am trying to resolve.

The first relates to a change of default TTS engine problem for which I have already created a thread.

The second is to do with the volume control. What I am experiencing is a random changing of the volume which just 'happens' - ie I have nothing running on the Tablet and it is just lying on the table when suddenly the volume slider appears on screen and turns itself down to mute.

The third is that when I connect the charger to the Tablet, the screen becomes unresponsive and impossible to use.

I contacted the supplier and they have suggested sending me a 'copy' of the firmware to re-install to try and cure the problems.

So my questions are these:

- Does anyone have experience of this tablet and know of any issues with it.
- Is it likely that a re-install of the firmware is likely to resolve these issues.
- Is it possible that these issues are inherent in the Manufacturers firmware for the tablet, and is it possible that I may be able to resolve them by Rooting the device.

As I noob to Android I am still researching and trying to find my way around a system which has so many variances and at first appears way more complex than Windows with regard to the way manufacturers 'customise' their devices - so any input would be appreciated.

TIA
