Help Problems with touch screen, cannot take backup of contacts and messages, any alternatives?

Hi

My xperia mini pro is 2 years old now. Suddenly the touch screen has stopped working. no liquid or any other damage. One morning the phone just decided to stop working!

Now when contacted, sony support center says on submitting the phone for examination they will format it for sure.

I need to know how can i take back-up of my contacts and messages which are on phone memory and hence not accessible when I USB connect the phone to my comp.

Thanks.

Without the screen, try something installing MyPhoneExplorer from the Play store. If it runs on installation (I don't remember whether it does or not), you can connect to the phone and get your contacts and messages.

In the future, of course, keep all your contacts on Google, and use something like SMS+ to keep your messages backed up.

Sorry, it's probably too late, but ...

- Root the phone:
[04/Jan][ROOTING/UNROOTING] DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit) - xda-developers
- Install Clockwork Mod Recovery
[Daily Update]SE Extreme Tweak Installer v1.8 - Update 11/18/2011 - xda-developers

Once both are installed, reboot phone. When you see the first SE logo (the white text logo, not the green circle), press and keep pressing the down volume button (I mean multiple pressing, and NOT press + hold volume down). Once you are in Recovery, navigate to make a full backup of your phone. Use volume keys to move up/down. Home button to execute selected item. Return "button" to go back up one menu option.

Note: Before rooting and installing CWM, Debug mode must be enabled on your phone. You do not need the touchscreen to do this. Use the keyboard's arrow keys + enter key to navigate around your phone's menus. You may need to enable "Install from Unknown Sources", but I'm not sure.

Once your phone is fixed, repeat above steps to Root and install CWM. (Re)Boot into CWM, and restore your backup. Voila, your phone is back to how it was before you sent it away for repairs.
