Help Problems with unlocking when have no password

Rensor1au

Lurker
I have been going mad for hours trying to solve this with the advice in various forums but nothing helps.
When I turned on my Galaxy 2 10.1 I was asked for a password. This is the first time it happened in years and I have never put a password into the device.
After reading all I could find it became apparent that the best thing to do was a hard reset and I followed the instructions, closed the device then held down volume up and power and was waiting for promised menus. Instead I received a warning message regarding damage an OS could do with 2 options, either cancel or continue.

I chose continue and next thing on the screen was robot and a statement that it was downloading. I left this running for 40 minutes and nothing more happened which I am sure is not what is supposed to happen. I tried this several times always with no success and finally decided to try the pin hole reset. This did nothing at all.

I am completely at a loss and wonder if I will have to buy a new tablet or what. Any help would be most appreciated.

Is your Wi-Fi working and the tablet can connect to the Internet automatically?

thanks for the quick response. WiFi working fine but tablet not connecting. It's as if it were dead and just keeps asking for password which does not even exist.
All suggestion highly appreciated

Thought I should finish this up.
Finally got onto Samsung support and after long conversation following came out.

If I had opened a Samsung or Google account for my tablet it could be opened with little problem. I did not have either account.

Although have seen I many forums tat a factory reset can be done by pressing Volume plus a same time as Power, the Samsung support people said that in addition it was necessary to press the home key. Unfortunately as my tablet was Galaxy 2 there is no external home key therefor no way to do even a factory reset.

Volume Up+Power (try Volume Down+Power if up doesn't work... One should work... Or try hitting all 3 buttons...)
Hold them until you see the Samsung logo on screen, then release...
Once you get into recovery mode, use the volume keys to navigate up and down through the menus and the power button to select...
