This can be done by setting up your profile at http://androidforums.com. For new users we actually pull your G+ profile avatar so if you don't have that setup... You won't have an avatar unless you add an image on AF.

That's a good idea to be able to change your profile picture from the "My Stuff" tab. I'm not sure if it'd be in the settings or if it'd have a different "change avatar" icon on/near the avatar, but I like this idea for an update. Thanks a bunch TechFreeway for the feedback!
