I'm a browser nerd who has most of them installed on my phone and occasionally will try one or another to see how well they currently function. My default is XScope (version 6, paid) but have found it feels a bit bloated lately; pretty slow to load and to react to new page requests.
So this weekend I was reading a bunch of online short stories and I tried the Operas, Mini and Mobile. Didn't care much for Mobile since the text size was uncomfortably small but Mini rocked! Pages loaded surprisingly fast, the otherwise crappy 1-level zoom framed the text pretty well and foldered bookmarks helped organize multi-page stories into easily managed chunks. Even opening the bookmarks was nice and snappy, contrasting XScope's confusingly slow web-based bookmarks.
On the downside, I don't think there is Flash support, and the zoom is way less than useful under other situations. I realized, though, that like any other tool, you need the right one for the right job. For mainly text, I've got to go with Opera Mini.
This is a surprise to me as I thought XScope was "it", the browsing panacea. Nope.
