Pros/Cons of HTC Rezound vs. Galaxy Nexus

If I'm in the market for new phone right now, I'd rather pass all of these phones and look for upcoming ones like Incredible 4G with Krait S4 snapdragon or Droid figher with 4.6" HD screen and possibly OMAP4470. They are supposedly all coming with ICS and just a few months away. I think S4 Krait will dominante most of HTC, LG phones this year as it has integrated LTE radio in 28nm AP. The only downside of Incredible 4G (HTC One S variant for verizon) is qHD screen. Motorola doesn't have one chip solution for LTE radio yet as long as they stick with TI OMAP, but if they get OMAP 4470 into Droid Fighter, that phone will be strong contender too with huge battery. Lastly Samsung is readying their next flagship SGSIII with quad core Exynos, LTE radio on board, HD SAMOLED+ screen, but that one won't be available here for sometime until Q3.

I'm not in the market for new phone now as I'm happy with Nexus, but I'd strongly consider Incredible 4G with S4 snapdragon if I am. I will be looking for my next phone in Q4 this year and will probably see impressive choices by then.

I would be inclined to agree with you usually, however given just how bad the RIL issue is about hampering AOSP ROMs on the above mentioned phones I don't think I could do it. The TB suffered mightily as far as AOSP went and the Rezound is seeing that exact same issue now, its not as simple as it once was. I will probably buy the S3 when/if it comes to VZW (yeah right), but I would be surprised if any of the phones you mentioned actually gets a flawless AOSP port unfortunately. Heck I will be surprised if any have unlocked boot loaders.

I picked up a Rezound for the wife, its not near the phone as my Nexus. Full of bloat, battery not holding up well, signal isn't any better than the Nexus (Rezound is stuck on 3g right now while my Nexus is 4g), clunky interface, settings panel is a confusing joke, power button is recessed way too far, it hasn't rang 3 times now while calling it (full signal bars), slow switching from 3g to 4g. I also can't seem to disable the lock screen even though I have it set to None.

I do however like the calendar widget (wish I had it on the Nexus) and the looks and feel of the phone. It also has great audio.

Anyone who says this is better than the Nexus is off their rocker :p

EDIT: Just had to restart the phone to get 4g back...

I agree with most of this. Especially the signal part...

I have been saying this ever since I got the Rezound. This is my 2nd one too...and it has the same issues as the first one. Not as bad so far on #2...but its still there. At this point I might as well just kept my G Nex.

There is no LTE phone on Verizon that doesnt have data issues. Some are just more annoying than others. And the Rezound has some call quality issues. Noise cancellation isnt too good. Again...both Rezounds had the same issues....2 different sim cards. This is why you should just get a phone based on your wants n needs. And if it works fine for you....thats all that matters.

And at least yours got stuck in 3G. Mine get stuck in 1x...or lost the signal completely. And I also have to restart it to get it back. I can say my G Nex never got stuck in 1x. It just never saw 4G in areas my Rezound did. And my RAZR just needed data and/or airplane mode toggles to get 4G back. When the Rezound has a 4G connection it is real nice. I live n work in a weak reception area.....and I dont think the Rezound can cut it either.

Gotta say it again...for phone and data reception...my RAZR has been the least annoying. Wouldnt have had to exchange it for phone and data issues. I woulda exchanged the G Nex and Rezound twice each.

I haven't truly compared a nexus with the rezound since I haven't owned the nexus, but the rezound has worked well for me. The data works fine as well. I once had a problem of it going to 3G often, and I removed the battery and re-seated it and that fixed he problem.

I've heard a number of issues about the nexus having data problems so I passed on that because I didn't want to deal with that in case I would have had to, though I understand some haven't dealt with it.

I live in San Diego, I wonder if location has something to do with whether data works well or not.

I and my girlfriend have been using the Incredible since day 1 and she finally dropped and busted hers so we were "forced" to get her a new phone immediately! ("I can't go another hour!) Well, I personally recommended to her the Nexus, and I thought she'd like it, though it might take a little getting used to since she's comfortable with Sense. Fast forward 6 days to today and she's come home with the Rezound. She's beyond happy already. She's looking forward to buying the giant 2750 mAh battery and couldn't care less about the added bulk. As for myself, I got a chance to play with the real Nexus outside of 5 minute sessions at a VZW kiosk and I have to say, using the Rezound now I feel the same way. I feel better about the HTC Rezound.

I guess my point is this: Verizon offers the 14 day exchange window. And no matter what people on a message board may say, theres just no replacement for real life experience. I can see how people would love the Nexus and hate the Rezound. I can see how people would love the Rezound and have the Nexus. But I really think you need to use them both before you can decide what you like better.

I read somewhere in the thread that somebody thought the Sense Settings section was awkward and clunky. I couldnt disagree more. I love Sense and really didn't like my experience with plain ICS on the Nexus. And i suspect it's really nothing more than having used Sense for the last 2+ years. Maybe you'll have no problem leaving Sense, and maybe you'll hate it. But theres only one way to know for sure. Try them out!

Alot of us here are former Nexus owners. I'll leave it to you to research why. :-)

I am a current Nexus owner running 4.04 and just today made my last call to Verizon to swap out my third Nexus for a Resound. I really wasn't intending to ditch the Nexus, but after talking to tech support for 45 minutes, realized that as much as I love ICS, I was not going to be happy with the Nexus, so I picked the Resound, (lucky me). After coming home today, I have spent a fair amount of time online to see if I am going to regret my decision, I am not.

BTW: My previous phone before the Nexus was a OG Droid Incredible, and I loved it.

The resound seems like a great phone, my daughter loves hers, especially the reception. I will report back later.

Long time Rezound user here (since it came out). I've had some problems lately with my latest Rezound, so VZW is "forcing" me to switch to a different phone, so they offered me the GNex or the Razr. I told them I'd give the GNex a try, so we'll see what happens. I did make the tech note my account that if the GNex is a POS, then they would be sending me another Rezound.

Should get the GNex on Monday- time will tell what I think of it.
