Protech tablet

Hi guys,

So my parents have a Protech 7inch tablet which they got following a lesson via Argos, but aside being slow as hell, they can't install any apps from the Play Store.

I was wondering if it might be possible to reset it with a different version of Android somehow to unlock this and maybe speed it up a bit.

why can't they install apps? no room? error? no play store?

and you can only update the tablet only if there is an update available from the manufacturer. if there is no update, then there is no update. you can't just switch to different android os. it does not work that way. the only way to do something like that is to root the device.

edit: and just an fyi. there is no need to post a correction. you can just hit the edit button that is on the bottom left of your post;)

Yep it wouldn't allow me to edit the subject.

Regarding the apps, they just aren't available in the Play Store. So if I look for something like Zoom, all it comes back with is a movie called Zoom and no app, it's odd.

Rooting was what I was thinking of, just getting another rom on there.

Apps won't show in the Play Store if the device you are searching from is incompatible with them (or rather, if the Play Store thinks it is incompatible). What Android version is this thing running? There's no Protech 7" tablet in Argos at the moment so I'm assuming it's not a new device, but Zoom requires Android 5 or greater so it needs to be very old for the Android version to be the problem.

Before trying to work out how to root it I'd try to find out whether any newer ROMs actually exist for it. ROM developers usually target popular and powerful devices, so I suspect this one wasn't a prime target, but it's possible that someone has done something. But since ROMs are device-specific there's no point in trying to root it if there are no ROMs for it to install.

Running Android 4 so pretty pants and missing lots of apps. Dad wants to play with Autotrader but that app isn't available either

there are not going to be many android 4 apps available on the play store for tablets. most devs will keeps updated to a certain degree. many will discontinue support for older os's

autotrader should be available via the browser.

Yep I think it is. They happy to buy something newest but as they are both in their mid 70's and never used a PC or any smart phone I wanted them to be comfortable first.

They got these free through a course for seniors with Argos but always been rubbish

yes anything higher then 4 will be much better. i used to have an s2 tablet until i dropped it shattering the screen. it's a solid tablet for sure.

Will see what I can find. Looks like those are actually unavailable. Most seem to be the Lenovo Tab E10 or Huawei mediapad
