Proximity controlled loudspeaker?

Is there an app that will automatically trigger the loudspeaker when the phone isn't next to my head? Then revert to normal once the proximity sensor sees it's at my ear again?

Yes, Auto Conference.

When you place the phone flat on a surface, it'll put loudspeaker on, and revert back to normal when you pick it up again.
 
That's not triggered by the proximity sensor though, as it won't be flat while in my car holder for example.

Well how is the phone meant to know how far away the user is? There's nothing on a phone that can detect that, other than light sensors. Even then a phone can't differentiate between no light in a room, and a fat head blocking the light.

actually i believe there are two sensors... a proximity sensor and a light sensor
 
Correct, the desire has a proximity sensor, hence why I asked about apps that can use the PROXIMITY sensor, not a light or orientation sensor. It realises it's not near my ear if it's even just a couple of centimeters away, no matter how light or dark it is. There's a free app on the market called proxylight tester which actually shows you when the sensors notice a change. So it's possible for what I want to work, just wondering if anyone knows of an app for it.
