Help Proximity Sensor Stops Working After Connecting To Bluetooth

I bought my Photon the week they were released and for the most part have been very happy, but I have had one issue that is starting to really bother me. The proximity sensor stops working after pairing my phone to my car via bluetooth. Rebooting fixes the issue, but it happens again every time I pair the phone.

I have turned off the in pocket detection and loaded the last two updates (including the one I receive this morning), but it still doesn't work right. I contact Motorola support and they told me the phone is broken and I should ship it back to them for repair. Is it really a hardware issue, or is it a software issue? They said they would need the phone for 5-7 days, but I can't be without my phone for one day because of work.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Is this a known issue? If so, is Motorola planning to fix it?

It's a known issue on several forums including Motorola's own forum. I'm told, however, that moto is not acknowledging it. I too have the same problem. If I don't use BT in my car I never have the issue.

Thanks for the response. I guess I will have to skip the bluetooth connection in the car until they come up with a fix (if they ever do).

Nah...just use it if you can. I simply hit the power button to turn off the screen, or set it for 15 seconds. Kinda a pain, but not that much.

Yeah, I haven't run into the issue and I use bluetooth in my car every single day. I tested out the issue yesterday, and couldn't seem to duplicate the issue that some have reported.

You mean your proximity sensor actually works otherwise? Mine just doesn't work. I have to manually dim/light the screen using the power button. It gets the job done, just a hassle.

My proximity sensor has worked perfectly, ever since the first update. I only noticed 1 instance, after originally purchasing my phone, where the proximity sensor didn't turn off everytime I brought it close to my face (while on a call), but didn't have a problem ever since that 1 time.

Okay, just noticed this yesterday. I'm assuming that the proximity sensor also has an effect on the auto dimming function because if that is the case, then I guess I have the issue as well. It probably wasn't distinctively apparent to me because I hadn't driven during really sunny parts of the day in a while, but yesterday while driving to an appointment, I noticed that my mopho wasn't changing to the brightest setting, to accommodate for the extra light and viewing outside. So, I just soft reset after driving to my appointment today, and we'll see how it responds when I drive back to my office.

The actual phone going to standby while on a call still works, it's just the auto light adjustment I'm more concerned about now.

I think I solved a couple of problems today, all by deleting one app. I had installed X Scope browser a while back bec it was the free app of the day from Amazon. I deleted the app today & restarted my phone. Since then my proximity sensor seems to be working fine as well as the search button & long pressing the home button to pull up my recently used apps. (The would only work sometimes before, most of the time they did nothing.)
Hopefully that fixed everything, now to figure out which browser to use instead.

I wonder how a browser app would have an effect on the proximity sensor. I'm currently using Dolphin Browser HD. It's just okay. Some people love it. There are certain things about it that I'm not fond of, but I've gotten used to them. I know there are a couple others that are "faster" as far as browsing is concerned, but the one that was the fastest (can't remember the name) also had a problem syncing up pre-existing bookmarks from the stock browser.
