Help Proximity Sensor

I do not fully understand how the proximity sensor works. Is it that it should only work while you are on a call? Because i'm now finding it difficult to use my phone, as soon as my hand passes over the sensor while i'm doing something on the phone, the screen goes off..( I'm using the HTC One V)

No, it should only go off when you're on a call. There's something wrong with your phone. If it's under warranty, bring it back.

I knew this could never be normal cause i don't recall it happening before. :frown: . As for the Warranty , i don't think so, I'm actually in Jamaica and the phone was a gift.
