Help Purchasing in USA using in Canada

zwick

Lurker
Hi everyone,

I'm traveling to the States next week and wanted to pick up the 32gb WiFi Nexus 7.

Should I expect any issues with using it in Canada? WiFi, google play, google maps etc etc???

Thanks

Don't know about toll regulations around the States and Canada, but this could be your only concern... The rest should work flawlessly...

Welcome to Android Forums, Zwick!

I think our German friend is correct. If it were 3G then there's the possibility of Canadian carriers not supporting the US version but I can't imagine wifi behaving differently.

Keep in mind I'm just speculating.

Wifi only, you shouldn't have any issues, bought mine on holiday to NY for UK. Only thing I needed was mains charger adaptor.

Well the power plug shouldn't be a problem in Canada if bought in the US... They should use the same outlets and even voltage, IIRC...

Thanks for the input everyone!

Yes, power plugs will not be a concern for me.

I'm hearing that google play may be an issue though. The tablet will think it's American and using Canadian internet may cause some issues.

Can't see why that would be an issue, as I'm pretty sure N7s bought in the US are actually setup to cover N American market (ie not specific to the USA), UK market, and maybe elsewhere too (can't remember what other countries appeared in setup list now, obviously just wanted to make sure UK would be OK).

At first setup screen I had the UK as country option in the list, so can't imagine why Canada wouldn't be there.

Maybe someone who purchased in Canada could check on whether US and UK are also options in country setup, to confirm it does cover the same market areas?
