PureLook S3 ROM

Hawker

Android Expert
Just installed this ROM tonight.

First impressions are extremely disturbing! I thought I was nice and settled in my little NeatROM world, but now I'm not so sure! This one is also an absolute cracker, and I'm a fessy fecker!

Its very much stock looking, as the title suggests, but a stock S3. Comes with the TouchWiz UX launcher, which I'm finding to be excellent being very slick and smooth. I'm an SPB Shell type of bloke, but I'll use UX for the duration of my test period of this ROM at least.

The ROM is LPG based and seems very responsive. It fast as Schumacher with the squits, and as smooth as greased squirrel cack going down the North face of Everest.

Sale, the Neat dev has a special mention of thanks on this ROM and most of his LPG mods should work with this one if required.

Comes with JKay's LPG framework bundled. After restoring Jkay's Deluxe Settings app, it ran without a problem when I restored the settings I saved during Neat ROM.

Latest Siyah (3.3.1) bundled.

Its early days for me in the testing process obviously, so it remains to be seen how the battery performs and how the ROM performs on a day-to-day basis, but for you Stock ROM purists out there like myself, this one is DEFINITELY worth a quick squint at.

PureLook S3 ROM

Well how rude!

That's the last time I'm bothering letting you lot know about anything! :D

Updated post 1 now just for completeness.

Looks tidy. Not my cup of tea but at least its unique. And honestly we can't leave you two alone for 1 day without a one-upmanship war ;)

Having finally found the Pure Look S3 ROM, no thanks to Hawker I might add, I installed it over the stock LPG ROM after first using the JKay Restore for odexed .zip.

Nice clean install of this deodexed ROM, without wipe. As Hawker mentions, it comes with the JKay framework and the latest, so far, Siyah, 3.3.1, kernel, which I was running on stock ROM. So, no need to install ExTweaks or NSTools. Also, it was a simple matter to just restore my settings for JKay.

Only had it on for 15 min's but first impressions are quite good. I'm not sure about the boot-up screen that shows Galaxy SIII i9300... just a bit twee I thought. Particularly as it followed the standard Galaxy SII i9100 screen.

I've never been a big fan of the TouchWiz launcher... but this S3, semi transparent version could, maybe, change my mind. Does anyone know how to automatically sort my app's alphabeticaly in TouchWiz? Boring, I know, but i like it that way.

I quite like the icons, which I presume are stock S3 one's. The touch screen sound is best described as a, "water drop", or gents urinal. I don't know how I will get on with this sound after the novelty wears off.

I notice that it comes with a choice of Gallery's and S Suggest.

Some very nice live and static wallpapers included.

Scrolling is a delight on this ROM. Possibly some of the smoothest I've ever had. The menu's opening and closing seems faster than other ICS, including stock, that I've tried.

Two things will help me decide on this ROM...

Battery life

Can the developer, ksr007, keep up with the stock ROM releases.

Definitely well worth giving it a go... now you have the link! :aetsch:

Battery life for me last night was excellent. I lost 2% in 6 hours!
Its never been this good.

That GS3 boot animation had me. When I flashed and booted and seen that, I thought I'd inadvertently flashed GS3 firmware and was worried about buggering up my phone, especially as the first boot always takes a few minutes. It was a very long few minutes I can tell you!
I've put my usual boot animation on now along with my normal additions to any new rom, ie. GPS Tweak, sound files, a few system UI sound tweaks etc.
I like the shutdown animation, so I've added this to my list of new rom mods too.

I think this is a little belter of a ROM. Certainly gone in under the radar, but I'm glad I spotted it and gave it a go. Well done ksr007. Keep up the good work, and can I ask, do you have any mods planned for the next firmware release of your ROM?

What can I say... except that when this ROM goes to sleep... it has a short course of death!

So far I'm loving this ROM. Oh God!.... that means I'll have to buy Hawker a drink... damn!... another half of shandy. :D

Deep sleep at 86%! That's unheard of for you cocker!

It's still like Usain Bolt on acid compared to mine tho. (97%)

Just been running this for a few hours. Its identical in performance and most things to Neat Rom, but it has nicer menus and stock icons.
Again, battery might be an issue but coming from LPF it couldn't be much worse.

Edit: I went to Apex launcher after about 2 mins with the updated Touchwiz. Its crap for a few reasons, e.g. hard positioning of apps button, seperate system and downloaded apps tabs.

Well, as I mentioned in my earlier review, I've sacrificed my beloved SPBShell 3D to give the SGSIII, TouchWiz, launcher a go.

Is there a bug that displays the battery twice or is that a mod? looks great though I must say, almost creamed myself when I saw the deep sleep stats!

The battery icon on the left is only displayed when the battery is full.
This has been standard since GB and probably before

That's true, didn't realise it was on charge! Just assumed it was a mod, being blue like the weather and date. I think I'll wait to see how people fare with this, quite content with NEAT at the moment.

just flashed this, hard to beat an early mornin friday pre work flash ;)

all is smooth, flashed verts 4.5 ICS theme as well, running nice with jkay. one of the few ICS roms which plays fair with PlayerPro which is a bonus.

nice find hawker, and kudos to the dev too.

Flashed this after trying VK, lasted all of twenty minutes as I didn't like it. The flashlight kept coming on for no apparent reason. Switched to Hydra H2O, which I like but being a habitual phone loser I miss Samsung's Dive package. So I'm now trying NEAT ROM

Flashed this yesterday and I don't think I've had better battery on my s2....and that's without any uv etc.!

Excellent work, ksr007! I hope you're able to keep batt consumption this good in future releases!:)

Agreed. I've never had such a good battery, and that includes compared to my old GB days.

Overnight I'm losing a little under 0.5% battery per hour. It also seems to drop more slowly during use too. Win-win! :D

have a little prob with the green circle battery mod (from the xda thread first post). also tried the LPG mod from vk, same issue which is..

battery mod isn't syncing with the internal stats, ie, phone lockscreen etc says about 50% while battery mod says 65%. let battery run to 15% low power/connect charger notice, both mod and phone state 15% but on chargin it all goes screwy again.

tried resetting batt stats in siyah, wiped dalvik/cache, fixed permissions, took out battery, no joy. have also flashed vert 4.5 so mebbe a framework issue.

any ideas lads?

edit: Seems like the 1% batt mod isn't implemented in stat_sys_battery.xml with vert 4.5, which he is aware of. fix later today hopefully.

Looks like the first, and last, PureS3 ROM according to the developer, ksr007...

all of you my dear, sorry I will not continue this rom for you. I prepared my sell the S2 galaxy because no support and donate to me. wish you find many good rom, and thank your love for me.

See, here.

This is the best rom I have tried. I usually get around 10-12 hours usage but my first day with this gave me over 17hours with 20% left. Nice find Hawker mate. I am not flashing anymore unless something outstanding comes out because for me this is as good as it gets....cheers

Unfortunately this ROM is dead as far as development is concerned (at least with its developer, ksr007)

I've been having a chat with Sale, and there may be an opportunity for him to take over this ROM, or at least merge it's best features with his own Neat ROM.

Should this happen, for me this would be the absolute best of both worlds, as I agree, this PureLook ROM slipped in under the radar and has turned out to be a blinder, but Sale is the most helpful developer I've encountered so far, and he certainly knows his stuff for sure. As the two ROMS are practically identical being stock based, Sale is looking to incorporate S3 features in an imminent build.

I'm not sure how PureLook is performing so well battery-wise. I would be interested if anyone on Neat could install TouchWiz-UX (the S3 launcher in PureLook), as I'm convinced this has something to do with it. If not, and its a "secret" thing ksr007 has done to his ROM, I hope he divulges this information to Sale.
