Push Email BETA for Yahoo, Hotmail, Google & more!

Wow, I was never expecting this post to be such a debate but appreciate every ones input. First I would just like to point out that I posted this before Hotmail Active Sync was released to the public and found this as the best alternative. Secondly as Hotmail Active Sync still doesn't work correctly on my phone I still find it the best alternative until Microsoft make it compatible with Android. It is well noted that Hotmail Active Sync is still not fully compatible with Android so until it is I will continue to use it. I also like the fact I can sync it to my works Exchange email aswell. Despite what anyone says about Sevens methods I still regard it as push as my phone is not doing the polling.

go read my other post, but to your one point, I will make this comment.

Why, if Google supports GMAIL push (ActiveSync) email natively on Android OS, why would you remove that functionality and put it inside an application that slows down the delivery process?

I don't use gmail I only use the gmail for contacts and my mobile Android account, I use hotmail as my main account.

Regarding SEVEN,

Can i sync my Gmail account through IMAP and if so, how can i do that in seven? i found something called "work" but im stuck on something called "connector id"?

Is imap the fastest way to get my gmail? now i have to wait 8-24 hours to get my emails when i set it up with the gmail option.

To be honest if your using gmail your better off using the native gmail app which uses imap to sync and push your account.

The reason you consider this Push email is because the SERVERS you are connecting to are ENABLED TO PUSH EMAIL to whatever client you connect.

To make a different point, all "Seven" does is act as an email application that can handle multiple email accounts, much like Touchdown, K9 or, you know, native Android :)

I understand that its Sevens servers that are doing the pushing but they must be using another protocol other than POP to be able to sync all the folders, I would also like to believe that they must have Microsofts permission to do this so they must trust Seven. What do you say?

i don't seem to be getting my emails pushed to me by using this program... the only emails that show up are when i open the program and refresh it.

"Seven's" servers arent doing ANYTHING except maybe intercepting your email and using it for other means.

Push email is STRICTLY SERVER SIDE, seriously, cannot stress that enough. The client has to support it, yes, but that just means supporting Exchange ActiveSync or IMAP.

"Seven" is nothing more than an application to centralize multiple email accounts. If they have servers involved, then I would be very worried about the security of your email.

so is it somewhere in the settings that makes seven become a "push" client? since i didn't get ANY of my emails without manually refreshing my account the few hours I had this on my phone. Even though I did get 7 email in that time frame to my account they just didn't show on my phone.

at the end of the day mhrc4 I don't understand why you seem to be so dead against what Seven has to offer, they provide a good alternative for people who can't get push such as hotmail on Android at the moment. As you can see from the link below they also provide apps for various mobile network operators particularly for non smart phones which are available to download direct from the mobile network company not from Seven which suggests to me they are a reputable company!

Lets put it this way. I am not against what they are doing, i just think their marketing is BS, but basically, they are marketing to people who have absolutely no clue what they are doing on an Android phone.

They are doing nothing revolutionary, they are NOT enabling push email, all they are doing is pre-populating server settings in their application based on the email system you connect to.

I am just trying to make you guys understand that you have had this functionality, and you dont need an additional application to do it.

OK, with regards to the quote above bearing in mind that Hotmail ActiveSync still does not work for a big percentage of Android users please explain to me of an alternative way to receive my hotmaill without having to poll for messages and to also sync all folders. As far as I'm aware there is no other way of doing it!

I created this post for that reason only to share what I think is a good service. Whether the mail is sent by Seven or Microsoft to my phone makes no difference to me it is still being pushed with no polling so as far as I'm concerned its PUSH MAIL.

When I create a post I welcome different opinions from any one but quite frankly the manner in which you have come onto this post and expressed your opinion has created a bad atmosphere. There were different people expressing there opinions about this app but as soon as you have come on and posted in the manner in which you have no one else has posted.

Not everyone is as tech savvy as what you probably are and you talk as if you think everyone should be. This app does what is required and 99% of people are happy with that. There marketing says its push and as far as I'm concerned it is because my phone does not poll.

I guess i am one of those "unsavvy" tech people because I have read this entire thread now, but both times I have put seven on my phone I am STILL not receiving emails... unless I MANUALLY refresh it. In which case that would NOT be push, so how do I enable push??

What type of phone and version of Android are you using?
Also which email service are you using?

So I'm new Android and have been using K9, but if I wanted actual push email that didn't drain my battery, would I be best off using the gmail client?

I have the Samsung Epic from Sprint, which I believe is still running 2.1 and my email is AOL.

I set up an AOL email with Seven on my phone and the messages are being sent to the phone ok within about 4 mins.
