Help Push email broken since 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 update

I tried this combination a few weeks ago and got the usual 'works for a while then goes back to not syncing properly' so I suspect you'll see issues again within 24-48 hours...

Hi,

After adding the following steps to my earlier post, see above, i have no more issues synchronising my Desire S with Outlook Exchange:

1. I have set the update frequency to every 15 minutes in my exchange activesync settings.
2. under Global Settings ('Algemene settings' in Dutch) I have set the option to download old emails to download all.

Hope this helps you guys too.

EDIT: This is what Wibbly suggests in an earlier post, sorry, forgot to mention his tips.

This isn't limited to HTC, my Samsung Galaxy Note has started doing the same. Android version 2.3.6, Outlook 2010, Microsoft 365 Exchange mail

I'm having the same issues, so it's not specifically an HTC issue. I also have Outlook 2010 and am on Microsoft Office 365 and they told me that when they did the 2.3.5 update, it broke exchange and they are unaware of a fix. The only fix is to use Touchdown, which has been working great however I prefer to use my native email and calendar apps. Thanks to everyone who's commented on their experiences; it sure helps knowing that others are having the same issue.

I'm going to upgrade my phone to ICS this weekend with a leaked ROM and see if that fixes the problem. For those out there that can update that way, it might be some solace. I'll report back on my findings....

I don't think the pc client is relevant in any case, it's Exchange Server our Android phones are trying and failing to sync with, not Outlook (whatever version) or whatever other client that may be in use.

I'd be interested (if anyone could confirm) to know if Android without the HTC mail client suffers as we do.

I disagree on the first part. Everyone has observed that it is changes made on the desktop client which are not synchronising to the handset. My own tests established that if the desktop client was connected to the Exchange server using the IMAP protocol all changes DO sync to the phone. However if connected using the SAME client (Outlook 2010) using the normal Exchange protocol the changes DON'T sync to the handset. Whilst end users might not care, for a developer trying to troubleshoot a problem that is a key difference.

Anyway, with respect to the second part, I am still using HTC Sense 3.0 but not the Sense 3 email client. I have replaced that with Enhanced Mail (an app costing

I had said that I was going to upgrade to ICS and see if the problem disappeared as I have an unlocked Galaxy S II. Before I could do the leaked ROM, Samsung came out with the upgrade and I'm now running 4.0.3 and I'm happy to say that so far, all of the exchange problems that I (and you) were experiencing with 2.3.5 are gone! If the ICS didn't come through, I was going to downgrade my ROM to 2.3.3 or 4 as it was fine back then.

My phone was updated by Samsung to Ice Cream Sandwich and although the problem went away, I'm sad to say that the EXACT same problem with accessing my exchange is STILL broken! Touchdown has always worked, but unfortunately, it doesn't allow for using the native calendar, etc...

Hi guys
Came across this thread and keeping an eye on it for a few weeks. I have the same issue. HTC Desire HD with latest 2.3.5 firmware.

I have 2 exchange accounts, one is my own personal server running Exchange 2010 and the other is my works account running Exchange 2003.

I do not have the problem with my Exchange 2003 work mailbox - that sync's up 100% fine, the problem is with my Exchange 2010 box.

However, I have been suffering with a seperate issue with Outlook Web Access where I was unable to mark items as read/unread/delete - came up with unexpected error. I am wondering if this problem could also cause an issue with ActiveSync since they are both linked.

The fix for the OWA problem was to remove the binding with the host name attatched and just leave it as blank and restart IIS. This fixed the OWA problem and I really am hoping it will go some way to fixing my phone issue.

I have removed and readded the Exchange2010 account on my phone and so far so good - it seems to pick up changes (such as read and deleted emails) and updates the phone. However I think we all seem to suffer the same issue where it looks like its fine for 24-48hrs before showing its head.

Might be an idea for others to look to see if they have the same issue with OWA, fix it and see what happens with their phones?

I hounded my telus rep about this and the resolution I finally got is a replacement of my handset with one that has not received the 2.3.5 update - so still on froyo. I'll use that until the ICS update comes.

So, any news on this matter?

Me and 3 other colleagues are experiencing the same sync problem with our Desire S.
There was a mail update like a week back or so, but that didnt change a thing.

Hi, this issue started happening with my work email account when my Outlook client was upgraded to Outlook 2010 from Outlook 2003. Inbox items deleted or moved from Inbox folder on Outlook were sometimes not synced to my phone (DHD, Android v2.3.5). No changes to phone or Outlook server software. Before the Outlook client upgrade everything was fine.

Yesterday I moved everything from my Inbox folder on Outlook to a new folder, then deleted everything that remained on the phone inbox. Changed download settings from 3 days to All on the phone. Switched back to 3 days after first new email arrived. So far, so good. It means all my 'old' inbox items are now in a temporary folder, but that gives me the incentive to manage my inbox properly going forward!

Since the upgrade I have had issues but cudnt figure out what was going on until today when i read thru this thread.

I deleted accounts, both on phone and on exchange server (OWA)

I then set my accounts again.

Push mail now works well only when i activate mobile connection.

It goes dead when i switch to the workplace wi-fi.

Anyone having the same problem? Plz help!!

I upgraded my AT&T Galaxy Note to ICS on Friday and the problem has been fixed! I had to delete and re-add my Exchange account, but it's working great now. I also like the way it handles sub-folders better now.

I don't necessarily use push mail - i download my work email every 5mins and my personal email every 30 (6x more productive?) but i noticed that my mail wouldn't download according to schedule after i updated to 2.3.5 too.

Here's what i did:

I enabled background data.

that's it

That has worked for me for a few days now. My biggest concern with this fix was my battery life. As i type this, my phone has been actively downloading emails for two accounts for the past 8 hours and my battery is at 60%.

The thing that i did to save my battery life was to disable EVERYTHING that would drain my battery when i turned background data on.

I disabled automatic app updates (there's an option to do this universally in the play store). I turned off facebook notifications. I turned off groupon notifications.

I turned off weather, news, google, twitter...ALL THAT STUFF and it has worked.

...for me (i will come back if this solution fails - i don't expect it to)

hopefully it can work for you. I also turned off "refresh on open" in my email. Someone posted that as a fix on one of the at&t support pages. It didn't do anything for me by itself, but i have no intention of unchecking it to find out if it messes up my email receipts. Maybe after i'm done working for the day.

ALSO!
Is there any way to roll back to 2.3.4 +older version of sense?

jason:smokingsomb: <--i was just in mexico a few weeks ago. Not smoking cigars, but definitely wearing a fancy hat

edit: i have an htc inspire (att)
