Push email not native to android?

I just picked picked up a Nexus S after 10yrs with BB's and I am a bit disappointed to find out (or at least believe) that my phone doesnt offer PUSH email services....... After setting up my IMAP account (more time consuming than on a BB :( ) I see that I have options for "Inbox check frequency" Do I need an additional application in order to utilize push email? polling my inbox every XX minutes doesnt seem very power conscious and needing an additional app just to recieve my email promptly seems ridiculous for a new phone on the most up to date OS.......

Please tell me I am just missing something

I don't know about the stock email app, but apparently K9 mail does. Haven't used it myself, since I use the stock gmail app, but apparently K9 is pretty good.

If you are setting up a gmail account, use the GMail app. That has push. The stock email app is not push. As Xyro mentioned, there are other apps that you will need to install for push email (non-gmail).

Yes, I am referring to adding my non Gmail accounts to the phone. The acounts "work" but I have to set how often Id like the phone to poll my inbox for new messages.....So Android will only push Gmail then, eh? I guess Ill have to look into K9 then, is this an entirely different email client or merely an app which allows my accounts to push to the phone?

It's been explained on this board a hundred times, so I won't go into detail here. Short answer is for you to forward all your email through your gmail account and use the gmail app.

It's a separate app to the one you're currently using. So if you switched you'd want to remove your account from the old one and re-enter it in the new app.

K9 is great... it is the stock Gmail app on steroids.

Also, as mentioned, you can route all email through the Gmail app.

Me? I actually do both. :)

In order to have 'push email' there needs to be something doing the pushing to you. In the android world, Google does the pushing. For Blackberry, a RIM NOC handles the push.

Just adding another email client won't magically give you push email.
