Push Notifications

I have several third party apps that I have installed on my HTC Inspire 4G that are supposed to receive push notifications. However, I don't receive any at all. This is not Gmail / Facebook related.

Is there a setting that turns off push notifications? These apps do not require any kind of 'account'. So, going to Settings > Accounts & sync > Add account does not apply.

Currently, both the boxes are checked for 'Background data' and 'Auto-sync'.

What are the apps? They may have their own settings accessed from within the app, meaning you won't see them in the Accounts & Sync menu.

In some apps I've installed you have to go into that apps settings and check how often you want it to refresh for push... the most I've found have been set for just once a day and I've reset them for every 5 minutes... I haven't missed a message yet...
