"Push" notifications?

I'm trying out FriendCaster, since I can't get the regular Facebook app to work on my Galaxy Nexus, and I'm just curious, for notifications, if I select "Realtime push", is that the same as push notifications? I don't really understand it, but I've heard that push notifications don't drain your battery as much as actually setting it to update every 15 or so minutes; is this the case with FriendCaster?

i used friendecaster for a long time to get fb notifications. then i found a way to get real push from fb itself. if you know anyone with a blackberry, use their phone to log in to the fb app. once it loads, simply sign out. then on your phone go to settings>applications>facebook and clear data. log in and voila! i didnt know anyone with a bb, so i used an online bb emulator. do a google search for bb emulator.

Oh, no, the push notifications from the official Facebook app work just fine for me. The problem is, the app will not let me post status updates or add comments to others' posts. I've cleared the cache, app data, etc., uninstalled and reinstalled, and the app has had at least 2-3 updates since I got my phone, but it will not let me post anything at all.
