Putting T-Mobile on watch

I have been a T-Mobile user since they were Voice Stream back around 2000. I have stuck with them and was thrilled when the G1 came out and I was one of the first to have it.

Now it seems like they are asleep at the wheel as far as android is concerned. They have zero Android phones with a larger screen or faster processor than my nearly 2 year old G1. You can't bring up the Nexus 1 because it is not a T-Mobile phone and is stupid expensive for existing customers. I now see Verizon with the Droid and now the Incredible coming out and the best T-Mobile can come up with is the MyTouch Slide? Are you kidding me.

I am giving them until June and then I am done. I will either go with Sprint or bite the bullet and get the Wife and I new iPhones. With my work discount the family price is nearly the same for me.

Sorry to vent, I was wondering if I am alone on this with T-Mobile or do others feel the same?
 
My contract is up with AT&T right now and have been contemplating my next phone purchase. Right now I've got an option to jump onto my wife's work T-mo plan, but I keep wishing T-mo had better Android options. The N1 seems like the only viable option in my mind at the moment if I decide to jump ship for T-mo

My main problem now is that a few months back I drank some Verizon Kool-Aid and it was so INCREDIBLE that I can't get my mind off it.

I am absolutely 100% right with you. Thank god to find a kindred spirit.

I have been wrestling with this hugely frustrating problem for a few weeks now.

I am an early G1 adopter, and I love Android, but hate my phone these days. I could die a happy man to get my hands on a N1 or something similar. For gods sake bring something like the Desire/Incredible/Evo to T-Mobile.

These guys were the Android trail blazers, and now everyone has 2 or 3 awesome handsets coming out, and T-Mobile - Nothing.

Every time I see an article about a new 1GHZ processor 3.7 - 4 inch screen etc., etc., I go looking with hopeful excitement, only to see AT&T, Verizon, Sprint plastered all over the article.

What the hell am I going to do ? I've even considered a HD2, with a plan to come back to Android in a year or so when everything has sorted itself out. Alternatively jump ship from T-Mobile altogether, perhaps to Verizon to get myself an Incredible. Man I'd love that.

I can't help wondering whether the rumours of T-Mobile getting the iPhone soon is what's keeping them from investing too heavily in Android right now ??

Anyone have any rays of hope for us ? Any tasty, plausible rumours of some of these awesome handsets hitting T-Mobile in the next month or two ?

The HTC Incredible is most likely coming to TMobile. And that will be a beast phone. I'd actually love to switch to Verizon for their coverage, but the fact that they can't do voice and data at the same time is fail. But then again, the future of Android will be interesting as companies start jockeying for the front position in the competition.

Don't count TMobile out, even if they are being slackers at the moment.

Is this for sure, or just your opinion ? Not that your opinion isn't valid, just wondered if this comment was based on any solid evidence/verifiable rumour ?

If so, does anyone have any idea when ? Seems like it's a couple of weeks for Verizon ? What kind of timeframe could t-mobile be seeing ?
 
Hmmmmmmmm...... I know that the Costco (Wireless Advocates) inventory leak from yesterday showed the inventory for the Incredible being attributed to T-mo, but that seemed to be the first and only time that there was any indication that the Incredible was going to T-mo. Everything for the past couple of months has indicated that the Incredible was going to be a CDMA phone and not GSM. The Incredible is definitely coming to Verizon after all of the evidence that has leaked this week, which makes me a bit skeptical of the rumors of a T-mo release. This phone is going to be a flagship for Verizon so it seems pretty doubtful that they are going to allow T-mo to get this exact phone too.

I would love to believe that T-mo is getting the Incredible, but I would also love to believe in this too:

Come on guys, you can do it! Stick with it! I know, that everyone here knows that T-mobile is the cheapest. That is a huge perk, sure you can go with another family plan, but none are less than Tmobile's. The coverage is growing and expanding, HSPA+ its going to be way better than Sprints WiMax soon. I get see Tmobile on twitter all the time announcing new 3G spots. "T-Mobile plans to cover 100 metropolitan areas and 185 million POPs with HSPA+ by the end of 2010." Thats 21Mbps!!! Thats way faster than the average persons lan connection, mine is 7Mbps at its super fast, but 3x that! GEEZ! That'll blow Sprint out of the water!

Not only does it have the best prices and speed, its improving! They just adopted their first Tmobile netbook, they're getting there with advances. No, I'm not a T-mobile rep of anykind, I'm just a 5 year customer and I know they have been good for me. Besides, if everyone jumps ship will these objectives of theirs move faster or slower? Think about it.

I advocate Tmobile for anybody, because I know its a great company, I really do think they have the best customer service! Do they have all the answers always, no, especially when it comes to Android, but they help and try.

I know that T-mobile sees the growth of Android, they can't ignore it, they started it, they aren't giving up on it. The Mytouch Slide looks like a nice phone, could it be improved, yes, but what phone wouldn't we say that about. Even the Incredible and Nexus, need improvements and there are always suggestions to be made. But I know that no company, especially HTC and T-mobile spend millions of dollars to introduce a product that will suck. For those that say they are only waiting a little while longer, hold on. Wait past June, think of when they introduce their products they've usually done big Android things in the fall, just wait, there will be a new device I'm sure with all the new technology - 1.5Ghz, 768 ram, 4.0 screen, better battery, real internal memory like iphones alon sd cards to subsidize and so much more.

Trust me, we are only seeing the beginning of the revolution, don't fall prey to dumb companies that adopt Android and screw it up with ridiculous advertising that confuses the public into thinking Android is call Droid and Android is not understood (Verizon! BTW They call it the Droid Incredible, Freakin Ridiculous! I don't care if they bought rights to that, its like false advertising!!!! I hate it)

Hold out, and there will be a light at the end of the tunnel!

I hear you about price, but at work I can get 10% off of AT&T so the price gap for a family plan with 2 smart phones isn't that far off for us. I just think that T-Mobile has really let the Android boat sail past them and they are pushing these crappy MyTouch phones on us. Yes they were the first with the Nexus One, but it really isn't a phone that you can buy on a family plan.

Also, the Droid names of Verizon's phones are stupid, but those two phones are really top notch devices that T-Mobile can't touch now and really have nothing in the pipe line to compete.

Honesty,
I could probably wait until the fall and continue to use my G1 by rooting it and I would be happy. The problem is my wife wants a smart phone and there is nothing on T-Mobile that I could recommend to anyone. None of their phones will be able to handle future Android updates or even the Flash update if it ever comes. The processors on the phones can just about keep up with the current software.

My contract on T-Mobile has already expired, and I transferred to an Even More Plus plan to wait it out for the Evo 4G that will come out from Sprint. The HD2 was a bit enticing, but I had to wait for the Evo 4G prices before deciding. You can get an HD2 for $150. So if you don't mind using a windows phone that cannot upgrade to WinMo 7, I think the HD2 is a steal for a smartphone.

While 3G coverage is great in my area (Balt./DC corridor), the problem "I" have w/T-Mo is the poor building penetration (certain buildings) w/their frequency band. It sux given that the 7Mb and 21Mb speeds can be had for $10/mo., but being a55-out as far as signal, when in certain othrwise "good reception areas", may make it not worth it.
 
Well the announcement of their version of the Galaxy S is the final nail in the coffin. If it was up to me, I would be done with them come September when my contract is up. I am hoping that my wife can make it that long without upgrading her phone. I so want out of T-Mobile at this point. It is amazing how they lead the charge with the G1 and never tried from there.
 
Samsung Galaxy S is coming, and for those that are wanting something fast, nice and Android, you won't be disappointed.

Just hold out a little longer. :)
 
No Flash, No Front Facing Camera and a 4.0 inch screen would have been a great phone 3 months ago. Also, Samsung is a deal breaker for me with their crappy Smart Life user interface. If I wanted a iPhone like interface, then I would have bought a iPhone.
 
there is the rumored HTC sidekick twist. suppose to have 1gig snapdragon, 16gig onboard memory, 32 gig SD capable, 4.3 amoled screen, 720p HDMI, 5 mp camera w/flash, front face camera, and qwerty keyboard.
 
Is it just me or does a 4.3 screen and qwerty keyboard sound way too big and pointless? The evo is almost too big and I can imagine adding a keyboard to it and making it even bigger. Everything else sounds amazing but I'm tired of the qwerty on my G1. With swype I can type almost as fast as I do with the keyboard and would rather have the phone be slimmer than the keyboard. Guess ill be getting the vibrant and praying samsung doesn't mess this one up

Everyone's needs/wants differ. I'm waiting for exactly that...4"+ screen "slider", and preferably a kickstand, or at least a case with a kickstand (a la Body Glove). Squinting at a 3.5" screen is getting rough.

As for cheapest, depends on how you look at it. With Sprint you have virtually unlimited minutes, and that "21mbps" is a theoretical speed. WiMax's current theoretical speed is 70mbps. Neither are achieving either of these speeds, and Sprints 4G footprint is soon eclipsing Tmobiles 3G footprint... not to mention the killer handset lineup. Something to chew on.
