Root [Q] Creating my own ROM

redspart1

Newbie
Lately I have been playing around and have finally decided to create my own custom ROM. I have all the required things to do this; ect kitchen. But I have a few questions:

*Is a form of Linux best to create ROMS?
*Is there anyway I can use an Android Emulator to test the ROMs? if so I am having issues with the emulator stating I have no ABIS.
*How would I make a ROM senseless?

The main reason why I am doing this is because, I am majoring in computer science and want to get a head start on JAVA and what not.

Thanks.

Ubuntu. There are TONS of tutorials on how to set up an android environment with Ubuntu. Best choice for that.

This I don't know, sorry.

*How would I make a ROM senseless?

If I assume right, you would have to remove a lot of the sense APKs and swap them out with other ones. EG: Sense launcher would be replaced by Holo, sense settings by AOSP/AOKP...so on and so forth. Whether or not there is more to it than that, I can't answer either. I haven't tried making a senseless ROM, yet.
