Help [Q] How to change default music app?

does anyone know how to change this setting?

my setup is- i have an NFC tag that just Pause/Plays media.

now depending on the ROM/launcher, the "first/original" music app will always be used.

for example- if i'm on TouchWiz of any kind (stock or custom), the TouchWiz Music App will be used.

or i'm on any CM10 based ROM, then Apollo will launch.

if i go to Settings > Applications, all the music apps do not have the "default app" configured to anything.

and then- if i use a file explorer to find any MP3, open it, and have the dialog box to choose a default app, if i choose Google Play Music, and then scan the NFC tag, it'll still launch the first/original app.

i could go back to Settings > Applications and see that Google Play Music is set as the default for MP3 files, but it wasn't used when Pause/Play was initiated.

i know i could go into Titanium Backup and freeze whatever app is the first/original, but that sounds like too much trouble. or even disable the app from within Settings (if that ability is there).

any help would be much appreciated.
