Help Qi charger discussion/charger recommendations

If I may add an addendum to this thread.... using a non Motorola charger that is Qi compliant is perfectly acceptable. I have now used three different Qi chargers on my 360 and not once have I experienced any overheating or spontaneous combustion. Anyone telling you differently is trying to get you to spend money on something you don't need.
My Nokia DT-900 Qi charger overheated my Moto 360 overnight. It was so hot that it went into thermal shutdown. I tried to start it back up, but it shut itself down again. I waited 10 min and it started back up and stayed on. Despite the Qi standard, some chargers with more than one coil cause this issue. I used to be of your thinking, that its a standard and it should be just fine. That simply is not true, unfortunately.

Yikes! I'm glad that you were able to recover. I have used my DT-900 and PB-1020 and not experienced any overheating... however, I have not used them overnight. I put the one that came with it next to my bed.

Thanks for letting us know!

Qi wireless charging works perfectly with my 10k mah backup battery/wireless charging pad:

I just put it on there to demonstrate. Of course, this is going to be a little tricky when/if I put a metal band on that doesn't separate. For that reason alone, I may end up purchasing a second moto 360 dock, just for work.

That's cool. Yeah I have continued to use my DT-900 and PB-1020 with zero issues. Not even a mild overheat. Just slightly warm, same as the factory one.

Yup. Actually, I seemed to feel the watch was much warmer using the OEM charging stand over my qi pad at work.

One thing is for sure, it really does charge fast. Went from 39% to 72% in 30 minutes. I love that.

Bought one but have had no reason to use it yet. It's still in the package.

Where'd you buy?

Amazon, based off of Chief's link. It's the little circular disc one, the PowerBot. Using it for the first time as we speak, because I didn't charge my watch last night. So, before my kids arrive here in the classroom, I'm charging her up next to my desk.

Oh, thought you meant you got an OEM...lol. I'm kinda leaning towards getting an extra one, just so that I can still charge my Note 3 on my wireless charging pad. Wireless qi charging has become one of my "must have" specs for future phones.

Without a doubt, I see the draw. When I give my wife my N3, I'm going to hook her up with a sturdy case (man, does she need it) and a wireless charger, because I find she's always plugging in instead of swapping batteries!

I might just take that route too with my N4.

Yeah, I always pegged it for being a novelty feature, until I actually had it. Only reason I plug in nowadays is to transfer files or if not near my wireless chargers. One thing I have noticed is, charging with screen off reduces heat during charging by a lot.

Has anybody heard anything about being able to purchase additional stock chargers? I could use one for home and one for the office. I'd rather use a stock charger than a QI pad.

I've been searching like mad for someplace to buy one also. I don't mind using a qi charging pad, but with the new band, it is a little cumbersome.

This certainly has been a curious (nicest word I could come up with) release of what is otherwise a pretty good product. Add-on items not available for MONTHS after the primary product is released? It doesn't make sense and will definitely cost Moto money.

If the metal band was available on release day, I probably would have bought it. But the comfort and look of the leather band has really grown on me and now I doubt I'll buy the metal one.

Same thing with the charger. I wound up buying a Qi compliant one that works fine, but I probably would have bought a Moto one if they were available.

I got a few QI pads and I'm not happy that I need to have the band undone with the watch flat on it's back in order for it to charge. Due to this I am wanting another stock charger even more.

Damn! I just saw this on Phandroid, but can't buy it anywhere locally and it's only available for store pickup

Moto 360 wireless charger now available at Best Buy

Oh well. I'm sure eventually they'll have more stock, but would've been nice to pick up an extra, for work now.

Not sure if it would really work with a metal band, but I'm tempted to buy one of these instead, just to try

Amazon.com: DiGiYes

Okay, was on that verge of buying the official moto 360 charger, but I saw a digiyes charger that I eyeballed as a possible qi charger that will work. At the time, it was only 9+, so I figured worse case was that I would be able to use as additional charger for my phone.

The Moto 360 has been a roller coaster of emotion since it was announced back in March. Whether you're just getting on the Moto 360 train, or have been riding it for a while, there are some handy tips and tricks you should know.

Besy buy had a sale on the Samsung Mini Qi Wireless Charging Pad EP-PG900IBUSTA - Best Buy which made it $4 cheaper than the official Moto360 charger. I got this because my wife has a G2 which has the QI built in and I left my Moto 360 charger at work and was the only other QI at best buy at the time.

Here is what I found out. The charger does work, but in small periods. I cannot leave the watch on it overnight. It will stop charging (heat sensor?) but leave the watch charge screen on. So technically it will drain it completely. What I have to do is put the watch on the charger and see if it starts charging correctly. Then make sure every 10 min or so that it is still charging. If it stops then the screen will sometimes flash from charge screen to watch face. I take it off for 2 minutes to "cool down" (its warm like usual but not hot) then put back on and it will resume charging.

It charges my wifes G2 but I have not tried a full overnight charge with her phone on it. I primarily got it just to satisfy the weekend because I love the watch so far. If it works well with my wifes phone, I may just keep it and deal with the occasional emergency charging, if I keep forgetting my charger at work. Likewise a guy at work has a cheaper QI pad from amazon that he uses with his nokia that I could bum there (I work 36 miles from home).

Is this worth the hassle?

:( After further evaluation of the Qi charging stand I purchased, I'm realizing that it's a similar situation to what you had experienced. The charging screen comes up, but it doesn't charge.

Okay, I take it back...After opening the clasp and pressing the watch against the charger, it works. I still may end up buying an OEM charger, just to have an extra without worrying (at work), but still a plausible option for others.

Here's a qi charger that also includes a 4000 mAh battery, so it's truly portable -- charge your watch anywhere you have both the charger and watch with you, even if no power outlet is nearby.

Amazon.com: Qi-infinity™ Portable Wireless Charger Power Bank 4000 mAh for all Qi compatible devices including Samsung Galaxy S5 SV, Nokia, Nexus 4, 5, 7, iPhone, iPod with Qi receivers: Cell Phones & Accessories

I got this also (based on this thread actually) and it has worked pretty well so far. I dont take it out on the go though, it justr sits on my desk at work.
