Help QI Wireless Charging problem S5

drpeej

Newbie
I posted this problem elsewhere in another Wireless charging thread but never really had a reply so I am posting it as a new issue.

I am using the genuine Samsung S Charger pad with Samsung 2amp power supply. Also genuine Samsung charging back.

When I place the phone on the charging plate all seems well and it starts charging but before it reaches 100% the indicator light starts flashing orange. According to the manual this indicates "not charging properly"

If I take it off and replace it the charging restarts but if I leave it it doesn't and the phone starts discharging.

Last night I left it on the pad when I went to bed and it was showing about 80%. This morning I found it was flashing and the charge was 50%.

I am placing the phone centrally on the pad with no cover and it bleeps to tell me it is charging.

Just to complicate things further I contacted Mobile Fun who said it sounded like a faulty charger and they have replaced the pad and the charging back with new ones.

However - the behaviour remains the same and I am beginning to wonder if this is how it is meant to work.

I can understand that the charger would disconnect at 100% to prevent overcharging but I would expect it to keep the charging topped up at 100% until I disconnect it. This is what happened with a cable and I can see no reason why wireless charging should be different.

Do non-Samsung charging pads behave differently I wonder. Perhaps I should swap it for one of those.

Just going to throw it out there as I don't have that phone or charging plate. But I occasionally have this problem with my G2. One thing I do notice (when it's not charging properly), is if I pull it off, it's gotten REALLY hot. Do you notice anything like that? Are you using a case where it may have problems with contact?

I don't have that charger either, but I do have a Qi charger.
Mine is the $18.99 cheapy off fleabay that fits inside the stock S5 case...

It is finicky to get it started when the phone is in the rubber case, but always charges to 100% and the phone is always at 100% when removed from the charge pad. It does charge immediately if no case on the phone.

I think you have a hardware problem somehow.

I see you have the Qi charger replaced already? That then leaves the phone itself.

Having a similar problem, purchased the official S5 charging pad and back cover. Phone charges perfectly through the day. Go to bed and placed the phone on the pad, phone acknowledges it is charging, light goes green on the charging pad, red light on the phone, all good. Next morning, pick the phone up and it is 91% charged and the light on the pad is green, no light on the phone neither green or red. Lift the phone off of the charging pad and then place the phone back on the pad and it charges to 100%, light on the pad goes green, light on the phone goes from red to green after a few minutes. What is going on - it would seem that the pad, once the phone is charged does not trickle charge the device. Whatever it is it is very annoying as you need to be confident that you have a fully charged device for the day ahead.

Thought I would try the app suggested so downloaded that, now once the phone is charged the light flashes orange that suggested their was a problem charging - it didn't get better, got worse! So, switched the phone off, took the battery out and left it for a minute, put it all back together again and currently seems to be behaving itself again.

Just have to wait for tonight to see if I wake up to a fully charged handset in the morning!

I have exactly the same problems. Sent phone and charger back to Samsung but it came back saying no problems found, however first night on charge same thing happens again gets to about 82%then stops charging and flashing orange led on charger. So sending phone back again.

Well, I never went to the point of returning the phone. I have a ravpower QI charger which has a built in battery and I have not yet seen any problems, so I do not believe it is the phone.

I replaced the charging pad, phone back and cable and yet I still experience this problem, woke up this morning and the phone had 72% of charge left, orange light on the pad flashing orange (means it has a problem - thats useful!!). The phone was discharging......

Really don't know what to do now as during the day when I am using the phone and then placing it back on the pad I experience no problems, even when the phone is 100% full, it is only at night.

Ideas?

Any solution yet? I have a similar Problem.

Original Charger + Cable from S5
Original samsung QI cover
Original samsung QI charging base

Goes flashing orange after charging for a few seconds.

Funny thing. If i use one of my old Chargers from my S2 (only 1A not 2 like required) it starts flashing green (which indicates not enoguh power) BUT it will charge untill the device is full!!! wtf?

Also i tested turning off my S5 right now when charging. Right now it seems to work. Does it somehow draw to much power in certain circumstances when the phone is turned on?

Is there a fix for that?

//Edit

Also: When I put the Phone on the charging pad and turn the display Off as soon as it starts charging, it will keep charging. Once I turn the screen back on, the orange flashing may start again after a few seconds.

My guess would be the phone is drawing somehow too much power and the charger turns off for safety reasons? Especially as it keeps working when i use my "underpowered 1A charger"

Its kind of bad?...

I have the Samsung wireless charging back and mini pad and all is well with my charging. Morning it is at 100%
I also have Pandora playing and phone sending signal to my Bluetooth speakers.
Weird you are having issues.
Good luck

I had that problem with the Tylt Vu-Mate receiver card and the Tyly Vy charger. Adjusting the position of the phone helps a lot. I switched out to the OEM Samsung QI back and no longer have that problem with the Vu charger.

I would try changing the phone's position on the charger. It is possible it is right on the edge of the sweet spot and that is why it is losing connection. Moving it to a different position might work better.

I have solved this issue but it will involve a
Slight modification of the pad.
First get a heavier gauge cabe and choose the shortest length possible for you needs. Next remove the rubber pad from the bottom to expose the 4 screws holding the unittogether. Remove screw and pry the top black pad that the phone rests from the rest of the assembly. Inside you will see the induction coIL. Use a piece of plastic the thickness of a credit card cut the size of the coil and place it under the coil to raise it up closer to the top of device. Reassemble everything and you should be good to go. Remember you need a 2 amp charger or better to use this pad. Hope this helps. It solved my issues.

Unfortunately it's been two years since the original poster was logged in to the forums here, so it's a good assumption they probably don't have their phone any more.
For what it's worth since the thread was brought up, I have an aftermarket charging coil in my S5 using the original back cover and a few aftermarket charging pads. I have zero issues with charging, the phone always charges to 100% and stays there. And the phone is in a fairly heavy case as well.

[QUOTE="G Butler, post: 7345618,

Ya all my aftermarket chargers work fine. The only one to ever cause issue was this samsung mini pad.

I have 3 Qi pads, and wireless charger coils in two S5 phones and one Note 4 phone.
all of them work, on any of the Qi pads.

you do have to get familiar with where the "hotspot" is when you lay the phone on the Qi pad though...
once you know that, they start up and charge everytime.
