Question about apps and transferring my Junk from iOS

1. The Nexus 7 will be my first android device (coming from iOS) and was wondering about apps and if they are similar to iOS meaning that you have 2 different types, iPhone apps and iPad apps. Do you pay extra to get a tablet app, and how do you know which apps are for which platform.
2. Coming from iOS, I'm pretty deep into their ecosystem and was wondering how would I move movies, playlist and photo's to an android tablet (Nexus 7). If I like my experience with the Nexus 7, I might just upgrade my phone this coming upgrade route to android.

1. Usually if there is a difference between the tablet app and phone app, that magic will happen behind the scenes. In the Play store, you'll just see the one app (unless the developer does a "special" HD app for tablets and like devices). On the left side of the web presence of the Play Store, you'll see a list of your devices and what is compatible with that app and what isn't. On your device itself, it used to only show you apps that were compatible with your device. Now, it will sometimes show you ones that aren't but there will be a banner at the top of the app page that tells you it won't work. The only time you pay extra is if there is a "special" HD version or if there is a free (often ad supported) versus premium version (hopefully ad free).

2. I'm not well versed enough in the Apple ecosystem to speak to this. I avoided it from the early days because they used to really lock you in. I'm not sure how tightly they lock users in any more. (I've heard you can now get your music back out of itunes format into something friendlier.)

welcome to the forums and android! :)
In answer to your first question, most apps on the play store are developed to be one size fits all although some don't render as well. (Plants vs Zombies) Occasionally you see apps that have an HD version, which probably has better resolution. There are also Thd games which are Tegra optimized (Nexus 7 has a tegra 3 processor) and often include extra effects but nothing too special.

With your second question you can download DRM breakers that will allow you to move your purchased iTunes movies to your android devices. Google will be your friend here

You can use an app like iSyncr to sync playlists and stuff right out of iTunes, if you like iTunes and don't want to move from it.

Movies containing DRM will not transfer. As said above, you'll have to convert them to DRM-free versions.

I honestly don't remember how iTunes handles photos. You should be able to batch export them, though, in which case you can either copy them directly to your device for locally storing them, or you can copy them to Picasa Web Albums to store them in the cloud.

My sister used Doubletwist to get all her stuff from iTunes to her phone.
For apps, it's pretty simple. If you're browsing the Play Store on your N7, it will only show apps compatible with your device. Most apps aren't tablet specific, they will just know you're on a tablet and adjust accordingly. And welcome to Android!
