Help Question about build prop (Dev opinion?)

CrimsonToker

So I was googling build prop to try and learn what the different settings affect, since the names don't exactly explain. I would still like to learn about that. But in my search, I found a three year old post on here, and wanted confirmation of what this person says is true or not.

Most if not all the build.prop tweaks are myths that have been debunked and known not to improve your phones performance. Basically, they don't work. It's why I didn't include them in my rom.

What mainly determines how a phone performs is the cpu/gpu/ram & kernel along with the software like ics or jb. Google has done a great job with these 2 OS's, they have vast improvements over the previous OS's that allows them to manage themselves very well (i.e. ram amongst other things).

As end users we can do a few things to improve performance...
---De-bloat
---Don't use 3rd party task killer (android manages tasks very well)
---Block ads so they don't bog your phone & browsing down
---Don't fill your phones memory to the last few megs
---Don't install too many crap apps
---Use common sense

I know all the build.prop tweaks, but I will not post them and help you guys mess up your phones.

I don't know about build props much but he's dead on about the rest, but you'll never convince a lot of people that boosting ram (not possible technically) hitting the kill button is actually making it worse. I can definitely see screwing with build prop being very risky unless you know what your doing, but people will always try, damn curiosity gets me too

If you insist on learning build.prop...

First, realize that each device may have unique settings. A generic Google search may be harmful- vendor/device specific quirks can brick you. Always include the device in your searches, and confirm with 2 additional sources the info *for your device*.

Keep a nandroid backup of the entire system. Strange shiznit can happen across the entire device.

Keep immaculate notes. You are blazing a trail. Do the right thing and start a new thread all about your tinkering and discoveries.
