Question about buying the Nexus 7...

What reason is there to buy the Nexus 7 through Google Play verses other stores? Does Google give you any special incentives?

There is no advantage unless you want to buy the LTE version. I don't believe the LTE version is available anywhere other than on Google Play at this point in time.

You can buy the LTE version locally but the best reason to buy from Google directly is the warranty. Google is better at support then Asus is.

It is the same warranty. But when you buy it from Google you deal with them for service (as I just did for an exchange) where if you buy from Walmart or Amazon you have to deal with ASUS. I can't speak to them specifically, but Google was very friendly and had a brand new replacement in my hands within 48 hours, gave me three weeks of time with both devices (I didn't need it, I sent the defective one back the next day), and even let me keep the extra charger.;)

I would assume though that for a defect from Best Buy or Walmart you would probably be able to swap it out in store, though I am not positive.

The LTE version is actually available through Best Buy now. I picked mine up yesterday. They will allow you to purchase it without activation as well. I just got it connected to my Verizon account this afternoon.

Unless you still are under the return policy, you will have to deal with Asus for repair. From what I have heard from many people on various sites, it can take up to 2 weeks to get your tablet back and they do not do "swaps". You have to send it to them and they will not cross ship.

Verizon provisioned a new sim card for it, or did you just swap an already active one to it?

New Sim card. They activated it on another device first; a device with a broken screen. Though, I think they used a phone, so I may need to give them call to see if they can fix it. I'd prefer not to get charged $40/month for this...

It was probably their first time trying this and seemed cool about doing it. The rep almost have up though, but another rep have him some ideas to try...

Update: I just got an email saying I'm only being charged $10 per month for access.
