Question about damaged phone, insurance and sim card . . . .?

I damaged my phone, got wet, tried to dry it out for a day, called and have a replacement coming from Asurion. My old phone turns on now but doesn't recognize sim card. When I ordered the new phone, I opted without the sim card because I figured it was fine. If I get the replacement phone and the sim card doesn't work in it, can I just go to the AT&T store to get a new one? Does it cost anything? Thanks for any help! I'm new to AT&T

I've replaced half-a-dozen SIM cards with ATT at no charge but I do go to the store where I purchased the phone.

new SIM cards CAN cost $25, depending on where you go.. if i were you, i'd call AT&T customer care and have them place a note in your account for a free SIM card, then if you go to a company-owned retail store, they'll be able to see that note and there should be no issue getting it for free.

they may not even try to charge you, it all depends on who you get at the store, so this may not even be an issue. it's just nice to have that note there just in case they do.

If you go to an AT&T corporate store, it will be free. Partner Stores are likely to charge since they have to buy them.

If you see an AT&T sign with "Authorized Dealer (or Retailer)" that is your clue it is not a corporate store.
