Help Question about firmware updates.

My firmware on my galaxy s i9000 right now is 2.3.3. But i was wondering, if i update it to 2.3.6 using odin, is there any chance my phone will get damaged in the process. Like rooting? E.g Bootloop, black screen etc.

DO NOT UPDATE TO 2.3.6........ I recently updated to 2.3.6 and it was full of bugs. The main 2 was that;
1) every minute wifi dropped out
2) made my phone VERY SLOW

I was always keen to install a Custom ROM but I was always concerned of the dangers of it. Until I had no choice. I installed the official XXJVW4 (or something like that :P) firmware and flashed with Odin and then used CF Root to root it. Then I simply install CM9 and to this day I have no regrets :) so...... Unless you plan on rooting on 2.3.6 and then installing a ROM or Kernal DO NOT UPDATE!!!

I hope this helped :)
