Root Question about flashing kernels

I flashed a kernal and found one aspect of it to seem a bit broken. It's supposed to allow a 1.6Ghz OC, and it has unlocked higher frequecncy steps, but I can not get the actually clock to go higher than 1200Mhz.

Now, I don't even know if I'm overlooking some step here or not (used SetCPU, etc...), or if this kernel is bugged, or maybe just didn't flash right--

But I do want to know how to go about re-flashing properly. Can I just flash any old kernel from here? Or should I go back to stock first...?

Stock ROM, BTW.

You need to return your kernel back to the original kernel before you flash a different kernel. You can do this by restoring your recovery backup or reflashing your existing rom or by determining what kernel your rom uses and flash that. (My preference is the recovery backup.)

With the stock rom, this is harder since it's harder find a stock rom to reflash. Still, you get the idea. :D

Yes, I have several kernals I've tried or will try. I think if I hit upon the right one with stock rom, rooted then that would be all I need. There are some good ones, just make sure you know what you want the kernel to deliver, they aren't a beat all to end all. Only so much a kernel can do, more that the roms can do.

I always keep a copy of the stock kernel to go back to if I need, and the install is pretty easy, without the need to do a restore from nandroid or Titanium most times. But keep one handy anyway.
