question about micro SD card

Is it possible to write data directly from my phone to my micro SD card? I got my Captivate a couple days ago, and I've been trying to research as much as I can about it, but I can't find this info. I know I can do it with a computer, but I don't have one. I want to put music and apps I download on the micro SD if possible. Thanks
 
Even if the phone doesn't download to SD, you can copy to it via a file manager. You can't install apps to the SD card - that is reserved for Android 2.2 - but the phone has plenty of memory so no need to install to SD.

Without a computer, you will have a hard time getting the very large HD videos you record off the phone as 3G upload is not that fast.
