Question about my new Samsung SIII

1st I would like to say thanks for everyone's help with my old Samsung indulge. I've now got the galaxy SIII and im loving it. My question is they kept me on my old $60 unlimited plan. They said I wouldn't be able to use the WiFi hotspot without upgrading my plan. Well my hotspot works fine. My question is will I get into any trouble using it? I don't want to have my account cancelled because im using it for my Xbox. Also my phone isn't rooted if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advanced, Jeremy

No, you will not be in any trouble for using hotspot with the S3.
Rooting is for those who really know what they are doing. It's great for making your phone run more efficient & faster. But don't do it without reading all that is involved in the all root section.

I would think using your S3 as a wifi hotspot for your Xbox will incur high data usage charges no?
I mean, constant gaming on the Xbox via the S3's wifi...wouldn't that incur lots of data transfer?

You'll notice he mentioned he's on the old unlimited data plan, so no overage charges.

Worst thing that may happen, the provider may detect the use of a device other than the smartphone and send a message to either stop doing that or be converted to a tethered data plan.

And just to make things more fun, the providers have been tweaking their plans so that you cannot add tethering to the old data plans -and you have to signup for the new data plans (thus losing your unlimited data plan).

Im pretty confident in my skills in rooting. (I learned so much after that damn galaxy indulge that I could almost be a developer lol), but at this point I don't see any reason to root this phone. I also have another question...the guys at Metropcs where I bought my SIII told me that rooting your phone is now illegal & you can get arrested for doing it. I called b.s. on this but I could be wrong. They said the FCC made it illegal and that Google is appealing it. Has anyone heard of this??

Rooting is not illegal, you are correct.
Unlocking a locked device is....and to better explain that, see this:

Metro lied to you.

Metro lied to you.

That's what I told them at the store, but the insisted that they made rooting illegal as well. They said "the FCC doesn't know the difference, so they just made everything illegal after the 25th"....Anyways as of now I have no reason to root and take a chance on messing up a awesome phone. Im sure the time will come when im ready to root, but so far im very happy (who wouldn't be after that pos indulge I had before lol :D). As far as the rooting being illegal, I just wanted to post it just in case so no one got into any trouble.

Unlocking in the sense of switching carriers without permission is illegal.

Unlocking in the sense of bootloaders is completely different and I guarantee the FCC knows the difference. (They aren't the ones that made the new rulings anyway. )

It seems your metro Buddy's don't ;)

Go forth and root my friend :D:thumbup:

(Rooting tablets CAN be illegal on a technicality. Depends on the situation)
