Help Question about Root/Rom for Droid Incredible on ClearTalk

kwan_meng

Lurker
Just switched networks from Verizon to ClearTalk. I have an unrooted/stock Droid Incredible. I am wondering if anybody has experience rooting and putting a custom Rom on a DINC that has been flashed over to ClearTalk (or any other MVNO for that matter, such as Cricket). My concern is that if I root and/or ROM the DINC, it will mess with the "flash" that the ClearTalk store has done, and then my service will be down the drain. Thanks!

You should still be able to root without messing anything up, as long as you dont do a factory reset. However getting s-off if wanted, will wipe it out. You should be able to htvdev unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash recovery, and then flash a rom. The only thing that should wipe out the programing is a factory reset from hboot, or doing an ruu. You could check out a pc program called qpst. With it you can back up all those network settings just incase, and restore them if needed.

What if the custom Rom requires a full wipe? That won't affect like a factory reset from hboot?

No you can wipe system cache data datadata android-secure, and still be fine. You just cant do a factory reset from hboot, or from the sd & storage menu in the os.

best news I've gotten since switching. thanks!

Wait what hboot version are you on? I just though of something, when you use htc dev to unlock, they have you do an ruu to update hboot to an unlockable version. That will wipe out your programing. But if your already on an unlockable hboot 1.02 or 1.07 you can skip the ruu part and proceed on with unlocking. If your on hboot 0.92 you would have to do the ruu to get the unlockable version of hboot. Sorry i forgot all about that.

sorry about this noob question. I have rooted and flashed find before but how do I check hboot version?

Turn off phone, pull battery, reinsert. Hold vol down and power to get to hboot. It will say some stuff at the top, including the hboot version.
