Root Question about SU access

Hi,
apologies if this has already been answered, but I have been unable to find it using forum search feature (mostly due to plethora of search results).

I am new to Android, but have been using Linux for a few users & have a small question about SU access:

If I root my phone, is it the equivalent of using sudo in terminal (I can pick & choose what has SU access & when), or, permanently running as root (potentially opening a security hole for rogue apps etc)?

Thank you, in advance, for a simple answer :)

SU permissions are handled by the superuser app. If an application requires su permission, you will be asked whether to grant it. You can grant the permission one a one-off basis or permanently.

Sure, it will be more secure if the phone is more locked-down, but it's not that everything always has su access automatically.

Thank you, both, for the swift, helpful & informative replies.

I went on & rooted anyway (after downloading stock RUU) & played around for a bit & I see how the permissions work, now.

Next job is to do some window shopping on ROMs :D
