Help Question about the new Android update

I have a few problems with the new Android update for my S4. One, when I get text messages, on my lock screen it just says "new message" instead of telling me who texted me. Two, when I click to see all my apps, it isn't a list where I scroll down, now I have to swipe left and right to see new apps. Three, the new color scheme is too bright for me, I primarily use my phone in an unlit room, so the new brighter color scheme is an annoyance. Is there anyway to fix these problems? Thanks.

For the texts, I'd suggest checking the settings of your message app, and also the Sound and Notification settings. If you really can't make it display then use a different message app, but if you set the system Sound and Notification settings to display all content when the phone is locked and then check there's no privacy option set in the message app you should be able to make it work.

If your second means the app drawer now pages left-right rather than scrolls up/down, that's been "standard" android for years. Check the app drawer settings (wherever Touchwiz has them, if anywhere). As you may guess I don't own an S4 myself, so am advising from general knowledge of Android. If there is no setting to change this, use a different launcher app - certainly Nova and Apex let you use the scrolling list style of app drawer.

As for colour schemes, if there is no personalisation option for this in the system settings you may need to root in order to customise the system colours.

Actually since this is Lollipop, try Settings > Sounds and Notifications > App notifications, select the message app, and there should be an option to control whether it shows "sensitive" content (such as the message) when the lockscreen is on. If that has been enabled by default, turning it off should fix your problem.
